I came across these '41 push button locks on Ebay. I've always wanted a set of these. Seeing that he says the first pair went for a lot of money I emailed him and asked how much.
Here's the ones listed now. Current listing. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34204&item=2488461 647&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEF%3AUS%3A1)

Here's the ones that already sold.
Old listing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34204&item=2485918 383&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEF%3AUS%3A1)

Way out of my price range.
Fuelpump, would you buy these for me? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dang! Them things are real cool... but not THAT cool. Aye! Somebody hadta be wantin' that first set real bad.

Is it just me, or is he using the same picture for both listings? Edit: Ok, I checked, there is a different time stamp on the 2 pics.

Someone here posted a way to make buttons like that out of freeze plugs. If you really NEEDED the look of the lincolns, couldn't you mimic the freeze plug ones and have a machine shop turn you some new buttons? Seems alot cheaper to me.

I don't know anything about these locks but I do know it's not hard to make your own market.
Years ago when the Classic car autions were getting popular I knew a couple of guys that used them to sell some high dollar cars. They would enter them with a high reserve and the buddy would bid it close to the reserve ( more than it was worth) and its a no sell . Two weeks later different location, same thing with a higher reserve .At some point in time prospective buyers would see a that a particular kind of car was getting bids of x$ and not meeting the reseve. These uninformed would then see the car ,or a similar car they though, and they would bid it up to where the other no sales were and the owners would dump it and let them have it. sometimes at 5 grand or more above it's true value.
Isn't it unusual that this guy has two sets of these?

It's the same set in both pics... Not only are the pics taken 1 second apart, for parts that he didn't know he was gonna sell a month ago, but if you look at he position of them, the reflections in them, and even the fuzz on the backdrop......

They're the same.

Seems pretty fishy to me... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

HR2H is right. I took a second look and the reflections are the same. It IS possible that he had 2 cherry sets, and is just reusing the photo to sell the 2nd set (no need to take another set of photos of something identical)... I would probably do that, but I'd at least remove the time stamp from the photos.

but I gotta say it DOES look questionable.

Yikes... that's pricey alright! Perhaps as an alturnative look for some Kaiser Frazer buttons... they look just as nice as those do I think, and would cost you worlds cheaper. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

To play Devil's advocate....

They could be repros, with most tooling setups it is kind of hard to make money without producing a number of them.

It does look like they are the some ones though. Why not re-use a pic if you are producing them.

If you suspect a seller of schilling, just retract your bid and report it to ebay. Covers you ass.

i'm pretty sure this is the guy. i tried to buy a set from a coupla years ago. he's only about an hour away from me and told me then he had several sets and knew they were desirable. he wanted more than the repops that are currently available. so he knows what they are worth but it sure ain't what that first set brought. could be the same set who know for sure but him. i think the repops are around 150 i'll have to look it up. several people here on the westcoast know the guy that sells the repops. if you do a post there is even a website where they are listed. i had it saved on my work computer but it got lost long ago. i plan on using a set on my buick and will get the repops. typically nowadays if you see originals they are generally over 200 when 10 years ago you could get a nice set for less than 50. i'll look for the info on the repops...ken....

ok i went back and did a search and someone had a pic posted where this guy was sellin 'em and they are 149.97 a pair and are of nice quality. the place is shoebox customs in bellflower,ca and the above listed number is correct. i am avoiding calling because i'm in the middle of trying to get the nailhead rebuilt in the buick and waiting for an auction locally next weekend of an old rod and custom guy where there is a nice 65 tbird coming up. need to save money til at least after the auction. i know if i call i'll go ahead and order a set and that will be less money to spend at the auction...ken....

I'd pull my door poppers/seleniods for a set of those.

Here's a shot of Joe Krummel's '57 Buick. It's a little hard to see but he has them on this car. I first saw this car at Autorama in Detroit and instantly fell in love with it. That same year I saw it at St. Ignas. I saw them shoot this on the beach behind our hotel. The car is absolutely beautiful and Joe was kind enough to let me and my wife drool all over it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Then all the guys watchin start jackin thier prices, happens every day with all kinds of stuff, but then supply and demand take over and every one starts dumping. Just look at the way Mustangs went nuts a couple decades ago. Now the price for ordinary coupes has been flat for years.

These are for my Kaiser... the inside door buttons, that is. With the chrome the, no reason you can't use them for the outside. Though they might be as hard to find as Lincoln ones, though cheaper.
