The smart money seems to be on doing a cage rather than just a roll bar out here in Kalifornia. Also NHRA tracks will want a full suit with restraints.
Other than those we seem to be getting along so far.

so i have my 235 and 3spd! cowboy bob and billy moon are going to hook me up with a chassis this fall [if it all works out] I'm fairly sure i still have the front suspension off my 31 model a.... rear end...i have a few i can get cheap...which one are most of ya using..???
i also have a 34 IH cab thats kinna rough...thought about making a body for it out of that...

Forget the cab.. Too heavy.. There are many different rearends. Pick one you can get parts for,, As far as your model "A" front axel,, Use it, along with the spring with a couple of leaves taken out of it..Don't try to copy, Just build what ya feel...

if it helps any...here's what i've got to start with...
model A frame.
40 or so front axle, wishbones, suqare back spindles, and a bunch of front springs...
pontiac 10 bolt rear end...(yeah, the kind with the tin cover...late model...so what, it was free...)
model A steering (also have a VW box...we'll see...)
i'll probably bite the bullet and build a period job with a model A rear spring and some sort of trailing arms...(extra weight? yep. period? yep. street legal? yep) i figger dual purpose is as real as it gets....
and a 'glass t-bucket body that i would probably narrow some to make it 'super slippery'
still digging around for a drivetrain...just sold my donor so i think i'm gonna hafta just luck into something unless a certain friend of mine from the delano area wants to sell me something from his vast hoarde of treasures...

Breeder... That is what is so good about these cars.. YOU DON'T NEED RACE CAR PARTS..Use the standard steel wheels. Steering wheel could be a $10.00 one from the swap meet to some thing in your neighbors garage..Look at some of the photos in the archives of this place. You will see what I mean.. We aren't going to race Don Garlits..

You talk about "Food Stamp Budget".. I had to cut back on such things as, Food, Clothing, Rent, So I could build mine. And it isn't even finished yet.. So we are all on a budget...So that is why we don't use Hi Dollar race car parts...

I know what you are saying.. I to put spokes on the front of mine, But because I had them left over after putting 5 spoke mags on the front of my other car.. The OTHER car is what keeps me so broke as to finishing my HA/GR....
