Here is a little weekend project I just finished up on my Galaxie Wagon. I bought the car so that I could haul stuff the to dump, drag new projects home, and carry 17 of my drunk friends around.

Here is the hitch I had a friend make and install for a 12 pack of Coronas. Yes, I know. . Corona??. . he thinks he is Jimmy Buffet. . so whatever the piper wants.

This is the plate bracket that I made out of 1/2" square stock and some thin walled reciever stock that I had laying around:

I had to hog out the original bracket mount and light with my sawzall to get the new plate bracket to clear and fit up nicely. . .and then needed a light to keep Johnny Law off my butt at night. I went over to the local parts house and found an aftermarket light for $3.00 and mounted it up underneath so that when the plate is pulled it will stay in place and light up your pin changing at night:

This is the finished product: Cant hardly tell the hitch is there. . .very 007 style! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Easy weekend project for $3.00 + 12 pack of Coronas! Money and beer well spent.

That is a great idea. What is it tied to? I know the rear member on my 62 ragtop wasn't stout enough to put any extra load on.

Its welded direct to the rear member. No, not strong enough to pull a fully loaded dump bed trailer full of gravel, but will pull a small boat trailer or murdercycle trailer with ease.
