well i finally screwed a carb up.i knew it would happen one day.im rebuilding 2 carter avs's.first one went smooth.no problems.second one has been nothing but problems.i ended up haveing to buy another to use for parts.soo my problem....the base had alot of corrosion in it.in the inside.it must have sat in water.i cleaned out all the corosion with "the works" tollit bowl cleaner.it worked great.everything is nice, and smooth.the jets however still wont come out.i eventually chewed them up with the screw driver.i think they are still somewhat coreded in there.i got 2 out.still need to get 2 more.is there a good way to do this?i have other jets.soo thats not a problem.i have to use this base since the other one was correded on the bottom bad.i had to use its throttle blades, and shaft since someone bent the ones on this one.feel sorryfor me yet?
thanks,
eric

how pissed off do you have to get before you break out the drills and EZ-outs?you have my sympathy, the mains on my 94's were stuck bad enough i just blasted'em with B-12 chemtool and compressed air and left'em in there.works so far, although the center one is giving me some trouble lately,i blame mmyself for not installing a fuel filter yet.D'OH!

ha ha fuel filter.whats that?
the worse part about it is there doesnt look like enough room to drill, and try the easy out thing.i always held my breath when taking out jets.and i was using the right size screw driver for a change. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yeah the primary side is like a afb.the secondary's have a air valve on them that you can adjust to open fast or slow.kind of like a quadrajet.they look like the one in the pic.that one isnt mine.im not that fancy.edelbrock just came out with them again.

I've had good luck using a flat nosed punch (about 5/16 dia.) to give each jet a smack! This "coins" the aluminum below the jet slightly, relieving pressure. I made a thick bladed screw driver to fit the jet that really helps. If you have to drill them, the thread is 5/16-24 NF. Good luck! Frank

hey thanks.i had thought about possibly hitting it with a screwdriver(or chisel),and possibly making a new cut into the jet,but i thought i would probly break something.ill try your way to see if i can loosen it up though.tanks for the info on thread size.awsome!

I can't feel sorry for you I'm too busy feeling sorry for myself. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Give this a try, if you can get at the jets with a drill get a left handed drill bit, lean on it a little, it will stick without a doubt, then let the drill do the work for you.
your other option is to drill them to the max, then use a prick punch to dig what's left out of the threads.
actually there is one other option. When you get to the end of your rope send me the base plate, I'll dig the little buggers out for ya (not that I'm any better at it). http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
if it don't get ya dirty it ain't yours http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
