Build thread ! 3 HA/GR cars to go !!!

Well I've started on #1 of the 3 , I have to build ! First one is mine ,46 chevy rear end ,49 chevy front axle ,will run 236 gmc motor and 3 spd. ! Second car for my 17 yr. old son ,32 ford front axle and maybe old model A motor ? and the 3rd car will be for the other LSC co-owner , were going to use a flat head ford ,iternational rear end ,and 46 chevy front axle in it !! Iwant to have them all done by end of the season this year !!!! Guess I better go get busy !!!

With that much of a start, you ought to have one ready for the HAMB drags!
You've got a whole 63 days to get one ready for the drags!:eek:

I'm only missing a few things for the first car ! 36" radius rods ,and a few other little things !!! The first one I hoping to have done in a couple weeks !!! Got alot done today !! Will post more pix soon !!!

Yeah should be pretty easy ! I built the lakester in 4 months but it is a complete tube chassis car and all hand built !!! Here is my progress for today ! Front end done , rear end tacked up and ready to weld ,tubing for roll cage should be in and done this week ,and getting my motor tommorow morning !!!

Hey Jim ,what tranny should I run in this car ? a 55 chevy 3 spd. like we put in the salt flat car ? We got the lakester all tuned up !!! That baby sounds great !!! You got the truck ready for Bonneville ? I'm going to deliver a malibu to raceway park this week ,so I will stop by and see ya !!! Here is my GMC for the HA/GR car !

:DGlad to see you guys over here on the "dark side" yes a three speed will work fine. Also i just had some header flanges made for the GMC's , i think i have three sets done up.
I also have a idea for a intake and carbs i will discuss with ya when you get here......

I'm gonna stop by tommorow, if you aren't to busy ! I have to drop off a car at ORP !Then I will swing by ! I stopped by my uncle's house today , picked up a cool 36 or 37 chevy manual steering box for one of these cars ! I'm fired up and ready to " GET ER DONE " or should I say GET EM DONE !!!!

I don't know about this "production" HA/GR thing. Next you'll be advertising a four-door econo version getting 39mpg highway.

Will they be available in candy green by next year? :D

New update ! Cage is done , drilling holes in the front axle, Called Coker and ordered tires ,should be in tues. Gonna get this one on the ground and rolling ,then get started on #2 by the end of the week ! Checked out the 12.25 HA/GR pass video ,and now really fired up about getting these cars done !!!:D Well here is the pix. for the day !

Look'n good 17', make sure your helmet can't get thru or between the helmet/rollbar space. I found that out last week @ Bakersfield:(, I should of listened to Thingy' and moved my 2 additional bars back:D but I'll just add an additional helmet bar.

Yeah thanks ! My lid will fit right thru :eek: ! I might have to add some smaller dia. tube horizontal ,and parallel to the ones I already have in there ! I have to order new seat belts ,now also ! NHRA now mandates a 2 bracket top shoulder harness ! My Pops out in vegas had to change four cars this year ,to the new rule ! Thanks for the heads up !!!!

They were concerned about Lee's helmet getting between the helmet bar and the top frame rail. Albeit unlikely I know wierd stuff happens in a tumble! If you just added two more uprights making it a 5 pt cage spaced right you'd be good IMO.

Toymaker ,yes I will look into the extra bar ! Thanks ! Update ! got my tires today from Coker ! Also bought a 54 chevy truck for another donor drivetrain for our HA/GR cars ! Should have all body work done this weekend ! and can start on the next chassis next week !These cars are so cool !!! Cant wait to "mash the pedal "

The small pix. are my fault , I use my phone to take pix. then send them to my P.C. alot faster to up load !!! Yeah we are doing a period correct panel truck to haul our lakester to Bonneville ! 1951 chevy panel truck ! It's about done a few little things ,will post pix. of it soon too ! We bought this 54 to steal the motor and then ? with the rest of it !

Up date ! I have my car about done ! Now starting on the #2 for my buddy ! He is just a short round man ,and I have to change the chassis design a bit for him ! So here is todays work !

Hey Bubba , i went a-head and made my header flanges ,got them done now and wrapped up ! Just a few more things to get done !Gonna try her out bone stock for the first couple out-ings :rolleyes: !!!!! Then I can start playing with carbs ,intakes, and cam !!! Look real close at my air cleaner / hood scoop !!!:D

Got her fired up today !!! HA/GR car #1 about ready to go !! got to get a stubborn break bleeder out ,then I can try it out in the alley :D Sounds so good hearing them old 6 Bangers run !!!!

Well guys ! I got her out in the alley today ! after re-working some shifter problems ! It sure seems to hook up good :cool: !!!! I have video , just not sure how to up load it !!! need to scale it out now and see how much rear weight I have !!! The second car is all tacked together and waiting on wheels and tires !!!! Going to go to nationals next weekend (at Indy) and drag it along just to let everyone check it out !!!!

I'm going to run the HA/GR car at muncie next weekend ! to make a long story short ,I knocked out my oil drain plug going out of my garage this morning !! so didn't make it to muncie today !!! Going to leave here @ 5:00 am next sunday morning ! I'll give you a call and stop by sometime on sunday !!!!

Well I ran my car last night for the first time !!! 1'st pass 19.0 coasting after 1/8 mile ,2nd pass 17.03 shut down after 1/8 mile clutch slipping badly both passes !!! Turned my adjuster nut back off ,on clutch for the 3rd pass ,and guys this baby hooked up ,killer light ,and 60 foot time was 1.89 banged 2nd gear and D-MM the slave cyl. came apart !!!!! This car is going to be FAST !!!!! Can't wait to try it out again !!! Now this car is FUN :D !!!!

3 rd car I think is not going to be HA/GR !!! I want to build one with a old SBC ,and build it more like the old sling shot cars !!!! My garage is packed now ! So i have to get this one ,with the flat head done and out of here before I start on another !!!

Update !!! I just got back from the dragstrip ! Had to run the pro class ! 1 time run and got put out the first round by one of those new "rear engine dragster thingy ma bobs" :eek: Ran 9.70 on my 9.60 dial (1/8 mile) @ 70mph. But wanted to post that the SPEED Channel guys loved it !!!!! They were there filming a new pilot called "Steve Blues on the bumper" and also doing "On The Edge " 300 plus cars were there , Awesome time !!!! Second car is getting the chassis painted and should be all done here soon !!!!
