View Full Version : help with figuring out a old ford eng..

i got this eng ..for v8..was told it might be a 289..not real sure on this older stuff...according to the parts guys at my work they think its a 62 260..but not sure because books they have don't go that far back..
is there a web site that has ford casting numbers?
here are the numbers.

eng block..........C20E-6015-J
cyl heads..........C20E-6090-F
also on the head........... 2A30, 2B6.

Motors lists the C prefex as a 289 for '63,'64,'65,'66. All year 260's are F code.

221 or 260 C2 is 62. no 289s till 63

I belive all 260"s only had 5 bellhousing bolts, also some early 289's.

Your engine is from a '62 fairlane C=decade (60's) 2=year of decade O (not zero) model (Fairlane) E=engine. the other #'s are casting dates...month/day/year hence 2A30=Jan 30, 62 and 2B6=Feb 6, 62.The engine should have a five bolt bellhousing pattern. Hope this helps. Rick

Also...the 6015 is the part base #...and the J means this is the 10th revision of this part...A=original B=first revision, C=second revision, etc. When they run out of letters they start with AA, BB,CC,etc.
