Hey guys... I'm considering paint options for the straight axle 63 nova I'm gonna be workin on for the next couple of years (Wanna try to get everything planned out before I even start spinnin' wrenches),but I wanna keep things pretty traditional 60's drag car-ish (It may even end up fully lettered).

Couple of things...

1. I'm thinkin I wanna paint the firewall and undercarriage a BRIGHT color, maybe White?? but I don't know if the white firewall would look silly with white fenderwell headers. Or should I just go with silver or black ceramic coated headers?? Or a silver firewall???

2. I'm thinkin maybe like a 2 tone bright orange/ silver paint job, or perhaps panel painting it...How good would bright orange and or silver paint hide poopy bodywork (If I decide to try the bodywork myself)??? Did any of the "flashier" drag cars of the era run heavy flake in the paint? Cuz I thought it could be cool "flaked"... If I go that route, would the flake help or hurt to hide the poopy bodywork???

Lemme know whatcha think guys...

Also, if any of you photochoppers wanna hookup some photos of a 63 nova 2dr post car, I won't be mad at ya!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Yes and colors like copper gold and greens seem to do a good job of gettin "the look" lettering in gold leaf also helps.Pearls ,lace scallops(not the trad.type)are all things that could also be done to help the look http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Your gonna paint this one http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I just did this:
White base
Lime gold pearl
Large gold flake mixed in the clear.
then more clear to bury it.

The pics are just gun finish, I started color sanding tonight.

I personally prefer an off white (egg shell) instead of the refridgerator/hospital white. There are a lot of new off whites on some of the new imports. I'm always checking paint colors on the new shit. When you find one you like in a parking lot, get the 10th digit letter/number from the VIN# inside the drivers side windshield. That code will give you the year of the car for the paint store catalog.

The new VW Bug has some very cool colors.
