I am a newbie to this forum and I am looking for some opinions. I have a 312 that was rebuilt 1000 miles ago with the rope rear seal. (against my wishes, the machinist decided that I did not need to spend the money for the improved seal) It leaks ....imagine that! Anyways, they made a silicone seal a while back and now I find neoprene as well. There is a difference, silicone is softer(more forgiving of surface flaws) or neoprene( tougher). Also the crank must be polished smooth? Thanks for the input!
