Here is a summary of what I did on my '30 Roadster to save some cash on the doors. I bought repro Skins from Macs but really had no doors at all to re-skin. this cost very little and may not suit everyone in the end result -but I am happy just to have doors. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
MADE PATTERNS OFF THE QUARTER AND COWL JAMB AREAS......

CUT 1" WIDE COLD ROLLED STRIPS [TO FOLD THE SKIN OVER] AND FOR WELDING THE"ENDS" TO SO WELD BEADS WON'T PENETRATE THRU OUTER SKINS
THESE WERE PAINTED WITH WELD THRU COATING BERORE HAMMER AND DOLLY TIME. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

after the flat 16 ga strips are dollyed over in the door edge you position the ends and tack weld at each end. this allows the door to be adjusted/twisted if you will to fit your body..a new Brookville door will not fit every A body- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif in fact most will require significant reshaping. this is difficult after door is fully welded.....

DOOR is now fitted to body before bracing is applied....I used 1" square tube for upper and lower crash bars. door bottoms are available but I just made these.......
the inner door is skinned in on a stocker -but I am opting to rely on the bars instead.
This is just as strong as is necessary and allows you to have complete access to clean paint and repair any dents in the future. I may make a bolt on inner at a later date ,but will not weld it in solid.
I didnt have any hinges either so I used some $2.79 hardware store hinges....no one said anything about them that looked at em so far ,so they must not look too weird!

Looks great Kenny. Looked at MoCan, Now It looks pretty done. Time ta wage war. A coupla years ago I looked at a BADD Metro project that had a roll cage made up and looked like it was on its way. Since then I figured out that roll cage was more for HANDICAP accesesability seeing how your gettin to old ta go fast. Heh heh. have I stired the pot? Now my reasoning. Being buds I figure the only way I will get my gasser Falcon project done is ta lay the challenge. Grey beard racin. Next year- Falcon verces Metro. Losser buys me a steak. Cal

Nice Tech! You should really do another one on the tubular cockpit support behind the seats that stabilized the body. Looks like it should really strengthen the body. Very, very nice ride.

Yeah Cal....HMMMMMMM?The Metro is covered in Cobwebs -time to re think that deal?????I always wanted to drive that thing before going into the NURSING HOME..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yes -Hotwheel, the Roadster A's are kinda shaky in stock form so I bent that 1-1/2" tubeing bar set up first thing to help out the problem.

I was amazed to see that car roll in...I hadn't kept up on your progress. I think it sets perfect. Looks like those radius rods held up just fine too. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Made me wish I had trailered my unfinished car down just so you could rob the generator from it to keep making passes. Wish I had stopped to take a closer look at it.

Vacuum advance is also not workin. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.giflayed out at above half throttle.
Neutral droppin the tranny to compensate for 3.0 gear and 30-1/2" tall tires is NOT the hot ticket http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you have any other pictures of your car ? I cant decide to use a 32 frame or an A frame ???
choprods
08-26-2004, 09:43 PM
with the step [alabobbleed] in frt and rear of frame it sets about like a channelled car but has full floor and a side view of 32 frame instead of coverin it up as in a channel.......I used a stock rear A spring and crossmember too that was a mistake -I could have made a small stepped crossmember that placed ride height in rear closer to its final restin place.... also frt axle is stock 47 Lincoln and no drop.........

Choprods, great job on that A roadster. I like your simple approach to solving your door issues. are you planning any kind of lip on the inside to secure door panels to?

Is that firewall a wheelborrow from True-Value hardware? Man I wish I could think outside the box like you.
choprods
08-27-2004, 08:29 AM
Yeah- a wheelbarrow from Taiwan..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifused to be an old trick used by hotrodders but now they are so thin that I had to place a stainless plate in the center to be strong enough to hol the accelerator linkage from twisting the tin!
HammeredA Bone- I thought a few tabs with holes located around perimeter would hold a sheetmetal innerpanel on for that purpose and allow removal for working on it too.......

I walked around the car and gave it a good "lookin at".
I like it!.....the door tech is spot-on. Thanks.
