if'n a feller wanted to take the gas tank out of the cab and put one under the bed, is there a particular donor that works best ? (52 chevy short bed 1/2 ton)

I know the Task Force trucks a early 70's Blazer tank fits real nice... Don't know if the AD trucks have the same space.

You can use the tank from the 47-48 versions of those trucks (If you can find one) they put the tank under the front of the bed on the passenger side then fill through the side of the bed. That's also the same tank they used in the Panels and Burbs from 47-53.
If your going later model donors there's all kinds of vehicles out there I've heard work well, 73-91 Suburban if you want a big tank. Also the early Full size ford bronco's had them in the rear.
Heard the reproduction mustang gas tanks fit real nice, 65-67 mustang.
You might also look at 67-72 blazers.

Just put one in my sons 47 Chebby. It came out of a 80'ish Monte Carlo. put it behind the rear axle, will fill from inside the bed (he doesn't want a fuel door in the fender) An S-10 Blazer will also work, but it is a couple inches deeper.

Jeep Cherokee tanks work real good and they fit between the rear frame rails.

I just went thru this with the '50 Burb.
Couple things to keep in mind: Burb tanks are hard to find. If you do the behind rear axle mount, you can't put the spare there if you wanted to.
I had one custom made at Wild West Rods. Fits perfectly inside the framerail along the driveshaft. Fills from the side gas door. Tanks,Etc didn't offer anything that would fit and no one else did either.

67-9 Camaro, 68-72 Nova & clones work real well,...filler neck out the rear, notch the rear bed sill for that, cover with a flip-down licence plate.
