Hi! Ray Erickson here--Guess I'll start this pic site off with -My 1960 English Ford chop-- I chopped it 5 1/2"'s--- I also lengthened the complete back of car 14"s --Quarter panels, the works, rolled pan, inset license plate ,custom ends on fenders,-- Chopping a 4 door is never easy. You can't just move the roof forward,, You have to split it into 4 pieces-and spread them out.. Study the picks, maybe you will see what I mean----Note here -I usually do my own hood louvering,, but I had"Ray Farhner" Do this hood--That is Al Lawsons chopped 53 Stude in the background--He is flagman on the cover of
"KCTA' Guide book --The booklet with the red cover---------------------------------------------------My wife had a baby, I took vacation-she stayed in hospital about 4 days[they did back then] I babyset our other 2 kids {sent them to school day time} Went to work & chopped this English ford ,took care of kids,& wife * new baby when they came home-& completed chop to primer & drove it back to work 2 week's later

Back in 1954 ,our club -The Kansas City Timing Assoc.-Hung out at Jerry Jameson's house--- In Raytown,Mo.- Jerry is still alive--actually in his dads barn. It was an old "Dairy Barn" The floor was slanted with 2 deep drainage troughs--That was for hosing out cow mess--The floor had several degrees of downhill slope-The reason I'm telling this is- It was hard to move cars past the damn troughs--But we did anyway-This was where I channeled my 34 Ford cabriolet & & built and installed my full-house flathead-Jerry was our expert on just about everything---WELL, one saturday morning I came driving in & the guys were standing outside & they started yelling -HERE COMES RAY- __I thought what the hell are they yelling about--well, one of the members named Bob Tatham[His car was a 40 ford coupe" Well--He had bought an old motorcycle & he had it there- The brakes were worthless ,But it ran--I was ,as I recall a builtup "Harley "engine on a small English cycle frame- Well-no one would try it out-They guessed that I would-Correct-Well I started it & took off up & down the street- IT was exTremely HOT, & VERY FAST -I had to leave a lot of room for stopping- Well, I survived the ride-- SO!!!!!!!! Tatham had a shop rebuild the engine * brakes,etc-- NOTE- ?""""they didn't magnaflux the flywheel""""-It had an open flywheel-no housing cover--So Don Broderick {{{Kevin Brodericks DAD}}} and I ,Told him to put a "scatter shield" around the flywheel-- He did- Well, We were having DRAGS at the "airfield 'we rented just outside of EDNA,,KANSAS--I WAS GOING TO RIDE IT-- Well!!!!! My sweety pie- said no sir---She was afraid something would happen to me-So out of respect for her concern- I backed out-----So Don Broderick ran it through the quarter mile--except Guess what ,He was about 3/4s way down the strip & the flywheel EXPLODED--It bent the scattershield all to hell -But Don only got a big bruise on his leg--When the flywheel blew ,He coasted thru the traps & clocked about 85 mph-how about that shit- Bob did not rebuild it-He just got rid of it!Broderick was a member of a-- K.C.,Kansas club -called the "DRAGSTERS" He just was hanging out with us- I am attaching an old picture of inside the barn--Thats my 34 in background-Bob Taylors duece roadster in background also- Jerry in foreground with his back to camera--------------Here is picture of Don Broderick who ran the motorcycle through the quarter At Edna,Ks. when the flywheel blewup--I just found this picture today--(thats don sitting on the tire)--The other guy is Me ,Ray Erickson--Like I said, this was 1954- I was a Lot younger then--I ran the 275 c.i. flathead with 2 carbs back then--Later I tried 3 carbs--Finally My wife gave me a Phil Wieand 4 carb manifold--I ran 4 stromberg 97's jetted for a 'V8 60"-- Worked perfect including for all the street that I driving I did back then

Hey, Ray, Tom Davison (former KC t-shirt painter). I just found this place, too. I was in KC a couple of years ago for Ray Farhner's funeral. Larry and the girls had a really nice memorial.

[B]Hi! Ray Erickson---Here are pic's of A 1961 Dodge "Lancer"--My wife drove it for many years--It was a -198 C.I. -engine when we bought it. Got her another car after about10 yr's-- So I took it for me--I put a 225 in it--bored ,-.060" over----Mellings 3/4 cam ----Mellings high pressure oil pump---Dual exhaust---A Factory" RAM INDUCTION 'INTAKE MANIFOLD with an" AFB 4 barrel" carb.--- Stock Torgueflite trans----WOW!!!!!!!!!-----It was really quick- floor it --a tire chirp & it was gone----A friend of mine had a "327" 57 chevie, He pulled up beside me at a" stop light "on the way to work--The lite turned green ,& I left his ass behind real quick--When we got to work,he said ,Damn ,You told me it was fast,& I thought ,yeh rite, I couldn't believe it--I beat a number 350 Chevies- a couple 390 Fords- & actually quite a few other car---THe big thing it didn't have enough torque to break the tires loose--SO it just chirped the tires & LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!--It would top out speedo a little over 120 MPH---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also a picture of an 1959' English Ford" station wagon That I put in a slightly hopped up FORD V8 60 [with a cam I got from HOWARD HOUSE, a MIDGET RACER GUY]--"FORD V8 60 "hooked to 50 Merc Trans..I had to face off the flywheel in order to mount the merc clutch & pressure plate-It had a 4:44 rear end gear ratio- It was Also FAST & FUN-- I'm sorry the picture is so lousy--Its the only one I can find---OH, it had stock 13" front wheels & I put 6/70 X15" rearwheels & tires --thats it!!

Hi! Ray Erickson here--Back in 1955 & 56 at the KCTA drag strip we used to have a problem with the wiring layed down for" return phone "at The timing lights---Vandels would find & dig up those wires just for fun, & sometimes- break the wire or cut it-----Well ,that situation was hopeless--So we finally just unreeled the wiring off the bed of a pickup & reeled it back in before we left the strip- ----- When no one was their, like late at night -Drunks would drag down the strip--Then turn around & drag back down the strip heading towards starting line 'the instead of using return road-THAT IS DEFINITLY NOT A GOOD IDEA- However ,We didn't have any serious disastors, which was a miracle---THe strip was built in a farm field ,with no buildings anywhere near it--------JUST THINK ,,,NOW ALL WE NEED IS A CELL PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
