Take your time. Measure twice and cut once means more when you're dealing with steel.
I CANNOT WAIT to see this finished product. Oh, and try to find some open-ended lugs for the Cragars, they might help you out there a little bit.

Von Ruler, here's the solution to your lug stud issues.
About a dollar each, I've run these several times myself.

Tingler your car is looking good. With the new springs you are putting in how high is it going to lift the rear? What I seem to see going on with all the "Gasser" styled cars being built today is the 4X4 stance. All I have to say is YUCK. If the car sits high in the rear there should be a taller tire filling in the wheel wells, although with the wheel openings on your Fairlane I dont see that as a problem. Keep up the good work.

Safest way to remove one big ol' tall spring? why turn it into 3 little springs before removal.....
[/ QUOTE ]http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's one way!
Can't wait to see 'er up on the axle. Also, any idea what that Speedway axle weighs? I have an F1 axle here and it's heavy as hell.. but I've seen it used before.

Hey, Glad we talked on the phone tonight. Man, it looks like you got some measuring point on that front end. You guys will have that thing on in no time this week.. Remember what I did tack some metal on there to hold things in place and get rid of them later. Just to get thing all squared up.
Have fun and make sure that car is secure... And if I'm a Homo then what the hell you?HAHAHA Later
P.S. I'll let you know how the gallery thing goes. Have those other clowns PM about there stuff.. HAHAHA

VonTingler I might have to pass on Saturday. I've got to get both mercs to the body shops and I still have to go cut the other merc top off. damn, I'm gonna be busy. Sure wish radical56 would hurry up and move his ass out here. Don't worry you'll be in good hands with chop top Larry. you know he can build a car in 30 days, we've seen him do it. Oh yeah the burgers tasted a little like possum, you sure it was a dog?

I'd say you've got that car's wheelbase spot on VT. Lookin good today.
Thank GOD you got those control arms outta there. IFS is overrated anyway. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I were you I'd stretch-out the wheelbase a bit while you’ve got the chance. That should improve weight transfer and high speed handling.

That's not a cinder block I see holding up your car is it? Come on man, be careful. Go find some more blocks of wood...or jack stands.
Grim, check out the pic with the nothing under the front end. You'll see the blocks are sitting on a pair of wheels.

Keep in mind that with the rear spring eye fixed, and the front in a shackle, the axle will move forward as the suspension settles. This will tend to extend the wheelbase. If you move it too far forward, then add the motor (especially if you get a BIG motor), you might have more wheelbase extension than you wanted.
For what it's worth, I think that if you center the wheel with the suspension up, it will be just about right when the whole mess settles to working height.

BS.. to the rescue ….In my opinion keep the wheelbase the same as it was. Don’t mess with MR. Henry Fords perfection. But, I’m like ever other asshole I always have an opinion.. Keep going..it’s lookin good. That’s a lot work. Wish I was there you big HomOoo…Later . B.S. I like it in the center too, at least on a street car. But forward does give it the funny car look.

What have you done with the rear suspension? Did you make this modification to improve dragstrip performance or because it looks cool.
Slag Kustom
08-26-2004, 05:07 PM
leave it in the center and move the rear axle foward http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
