View Full Version : 50 YEARS OF ROD & CUSTOM - BOOK AUCTION!!!!!!
okay, okay!
i know some of you already know, but the book is actually finished. to say that it was an exhaustive project is an understatement, but we think it was well worth the effort, and hopefully the wait.
the books were shipped out last week to those that had pre-ordered, so hopefully some of you have already received it.
but once again we thought we'd show our appreciation for the h.a.m.b. by offering up an auction for one of these babies.
auction will end 8:20pm friday the 27th, im sure you all know what do... send ryan the cash, and once he has put the good word in, we'll ship it out.
we will also be at the goodguys pleasanton show, so if your local, you could always swing by the booth and pick it up.
geoff
p.s. i dont have a pic of the cover at this moment, but will post one in the morning.

(c'mon guys, I'm pretty sure it says FIFTY years...)
a little info on it...
Integral to the history of hot rodding and customizing is the lively history of publishing icon Rod & Custom magazine—including all its stops (four), starts (five), and innovations (ongoing)—always anchored by the enthusiastic dedication of the people who have strived to keep it going. This extensively researched fifty-year chronicle follows the journalistic exploits of R&C in the hands of Spence Murray, Lynn Wineland, Bud Bryan, Tom Medley, Gray Baskerville, Pat Ganahl, and others as they’ve spotlighted the cars—the creativity and muscle, the flamboyance and craftsmanship—and the people who designed, built, customized, raced, and lived them (and even some who were simply proud to show them off).
Described as well are R&C’s occasional excursions off the track—into go-karting, model cars, and such—as it searched for new audiences in the crowded automotive publishing field.
Here you’ll also find all the true legends, from the Barris brothers to Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, from Pete Chapouris & Jim ‘Jake’ Jacobs to Boyd Coddington, as well as many of the rank-and-file of rodding and customizing from all over the country, and their cars—in showrooms, at meets, on quarter-mile tracks, in parking lots, at Bonneville, on the open road, and, of course, in the works. Featured are many vintage and award-winning photographs from the Petersen Publishing archives, including hundreds in full color, plus some never-before-published outtakes as well as a wealth of recently discovered finds from the early days. Accompanying the photographs of the rods and customs are detailed descriptions of the componentry and accounts of the artists and visionaries who had a hand in creating these awesome machines.
Ryan/Geoff...is that the "final" cover version? I thought someone had "issues" with the silver foil?

Yep that's the cover. I made a post about this book after seeing the very first bound copy when it hit the states. It's truly AMAZING and a book everyone will want to own. I've never anticipated a piece of printed material more than my own copy of this book. A book about fifty years of R&C alone would be killer, but put together by this crew who obviously put their hearts into it this has to be one of the very best books on rodding ever!

hey RF, thats the cover! i guess there was some minor "issues" but i guess in the end it was all miscommunication, some on our part, some on others. needless to say i think we are all pretty happy.
thanks JimA, were pretty proud, it makes it all the more worth the effort when people appreciate the time and consumption that project took. but, now another dealine lingers... does it ever end??
im not sure about the comment on the cover, is that an inside joke?
i like the way this biddings going, if this thing hits $200.00, i'll try to get it signed by the publisher and author. ooooh, one of a kind!
