What a waste of time! I got up at 5am. and drove 85 miles for nothing. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif About 30% of the spaces were empty. I spent a total of $5 bucks on a Drag Racing calander from 1965. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif A big percentage of sellers were dealing in new parts, mostly billet. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Ebay is killing swapmeets. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I think you got there too early...
I got there at 8:30... found four '40 Ford 4" rims CHEAP... and an Offy 2x2 intake for a flathead for $50.

There were tons of deals to be had on parts... but I ran out of money. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I wasn't too happy about having to pay $6 to get in though... Swap meets used to be free.

I also do agree that e-bay has killed the swap meet... damn near every part that is similar in quality and type are selling for about the same amount of money... i.e. EVERYONE knows what they can get for it on e-bay... so they ask those prices, or higher.

no matter what swap meet you go to,whereever it is,,it always depends on what your looking for,,

if im looking for something, then i always seem to find what im looking for, if i dont need anything, but i go to a swap meet,..then i never find anything...

..where you looking for anything?

I always go on the first day and walk around while the venders are still coming in. I almost always find enough stuff to spend all my money, but then I don't know what I want until I see it. 3/4 of the stuff I buy goes on ebay to support my projects.
It did take me three years and a dozen or so big swap meets to find a dual plane aluminum manifold for a 390, and I still had to pay a buck sixty for it.
Also if you go on Sunday at about noon, reality has set in on vendors and they will sell cheap to keep from taking stuff home. We have some prewar meets in this part of the country. I haven't made it to one yet but a couple are coming up.
A friend of mine walked up to an A roadster on a trailer last year at Chikasha. The guy was asking $500 and some asshole was trying to buy it for $400 but ended up taking it for $450. The deals are out there but you have to stay after it to find them. There are old guys with hoards of stuff. You just have to get out and network to find stuff.

That;s hilarious! I picked up that calendar because it was better than the copy I had but then the guy was rude when I asked for a price on one of his signs so I bailed

It was in that $5 bin, right? That has some killer images in it. I've been meaning to use it as incentive to do a Billetproof calendar.

That big box I had was mostly Billetproof trophy material. I did get a perfect set of Ford headlights for $35 though.

All in all I would have rather slept in but it was better than I expected.

Yeah that was the one, it is a great calander! I was thinking of taking it apart to hang all the pics up but some of the ads on the backsides are too cool. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I hadn't been to a swap that size for a few years so it was good for me, tho the 4 dollar raise in price to get in was a bit of a shocker. I saw abunch of stuff I really shoulda bought like this way cool in/out box with a reverser, oh and a 28" wide 9" housing with decent aftermarket axles for 100. It did get my wheels aturnin for my FED that I still want to build still. Was gonna go down to Fresno to buy Crepper Larry's pick up but something came up and had to leave town(sorry). Maybe in October it'll be better.

shoot, Pamona swap meet cost $10 to get in, $10 bucks to park. If you drive in for "prefered" parking for your pre-72 ride, its $20 at the gate, not including the fee for others in the car...one car could drop $50 easy...just to get in. Its a racket.

Hey Chopped50, go in on Saturday, tell them your car is for sale..its 15 or 20 bucks, you get 2 guys in, plus all your "supplies" . Check out the crap early, and if youre able to wake up at 5:30, you get the jump on the rest on Sunday. It is a racket if you dont know the ins...

Muttley. Just an Idea but take the calander to Kinkos and make color copies of the whole thing front and back and then hang em on yer wall. Then your calander will be intact and you have all the bitchin pics and ads to display. You can even blow them up. I did this with some small postcards and blew em up and they look perfect. Not that expensive either.
Just my .02
If they turn out good you have to send a copy to me since it is my Idea. Ha Ha just kidding
