HELP! Chevy 216 removal!!!

We're trying to pull Faye's old engine and are at the part where we're unbolting the bolts through the flywheel to the torque converter... The book we're using says there's 3 bolts but it's for a 57 chevy.. Any idea how many bolts are in the 1951 216?

If you have an automatic, almost ALL of them use three converter bolts in a triangular pattern. You have to turn the engine over and remove them one at a time from the access point (inspection cover) at the bottom of the bellhousing.

So far we've taken out 15 and every time we bump the engine we're finding more!

What in the hell are we unbolting???

Total bolts... 16!

We tried to pull the engine but something is still holding it! We've got a 1/2 gap between the engine and bellhousing, but it won't come free... what are we doing wrong!???

Here's a '51 manual that someone put on the web. the entire thing!

It looks like you are taking apart the entire toque converter. It is not a one-piece thing like modern cars.
It (according to this book) has 6 bolts holding it to the flywheel.

We missed one of the six bolts we were supposed to take off..(and we also removed all the rest of em in the process!) once we found it, everything went well and the engine is finally out...

It's all in knowing how, right?
