Man, that looks NICE!
So...what are the "steps"? What was the base color? Then what color or flake did you spray? Just tryin to get an idea of how the procedure goes for HOK. I've got a project coming up that I want to spray some flake on, so any info I can get might help me a little more. Thanks.

Here is my process.
PPG DP primer
K36 surfacer primer which is very light almost white
Hok Lime Gold Pearl which is the PBC line.
then two tablespoons of large dark gold flake mixed into PPG 2021 clear
Three layers of the flaked clear.
then recoat and bury with more plain clear.
one warning, the PBC color is very translucent so your surfacer primer should be one color, I had a spot of black DP showing thru my K36 and it took some product to cover it.

I plan to let it shrink a while before color sanding and buff

The color is really wierd, check out these two pics the flake and color flip a lot. These two pics were taken one inside one outside.

Yes, I am doing the frame also, but I still have a few things to wrap up. I really had not planned to paint this myself, and I got bored this weekend and decided to go at it.

Is that all the flake you used in the whole project or is that per layer?


I'm trying to figure out how much (volume) I need to do the roof on my Elky.
I figure it's about the same area as your tank and fenders, since I don't have to shoot from so many angles.
Silver flake over metalic silver probably..

It was two tablespoons per 14 ounces of clear. I put three layers down. If you wanted more coverage you can add more flake. I didnt want hide my pearl green, I just wanted to enhance it. The HOK data sheet explains coverage for color and flake size.

Did you do any sanding to knock the flake down before you buried it? Also, did you use a larger tip or the same one you used to shoot the base?

No sanding before you bury it, the "destructions" state if you sand it before you bury it, you will scrape the layer of color off of the flake that is exposed leaving silver flake behind. It was the same tip I just adjusted flow and air pressure.
***Please keep in mind Im not a painter so Im just telling what worked for me this weekend.

Did you just paint those whitewalls on the minibike? It looks cool.

Yes I did. Krylon Fusion spray paint. You gotta clean the tires real good. I did a post about doing whitewalls on full size car tires awhile back. Pretty much the same deal, except I didn't grind the sidewall smooth on the Minibike. Dean
