I had to work. But it's ok. I cruised by the farm I usta work on, and there was a whole bunch of trees cut down and a bunch of scrap metal piles. So I veered off the road for a closer look see...

There was a bunch of old Ford axles, but they were all bastardized into wagon axles, you know solid welded spindles and whatnot. But, I did manage to pull an axle out that may be salvageable. I just need help ID'ing it.

It's a parallel leaf job, came with wooden center wheels with a big "B" on the hubcap. I'm thinking late 20's/early 30's Buick, but can't find any good pix on the net. Well, in the last 10 minutes anyway. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyone know these old Buicks that can help? It's got a stamped S/N on it 1280182. Will that help?

Oh yeah, and does anyone know what the name of that stuff is Roger Welsh uses to fix the old tractor steering wheels? I pulled a column off an old frame there and I think the wheel is savable. It's an old Ford one, black rubber? stuff. Too bad the 59A in the frame has sat without an air cleaner so long.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Thanks.

I've heard you can use that stuff from the drug store that's made to patch dentures to resto a steering wheel.

early buicks did have parallel leafs....

Late teen's and early 20's Buick were big though...consitered three seaters...

If it is early Buick it may be too wide

It's the same width as the Ford axle I got, just BEEFIER!!!! It's pretty massive.

Denture stuff, huh... I'll have to look into that. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks dudes.
