I ran a post awhile back asking what folks use to get the salt off their cars. Several HAMBers suggested Salt-Away. I just came in from washing down my truck and all I can say is that the stuff is magic. aussiesteve got caught in that drizzle on Wed afternoon. He's gonna need a quart of the stuff http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nasty stuff that salt. I have never been to B'ville but last year we had a contract at a nearby Morton salt mine. Evaporation from the cooling towers came over our work area and would ruin anything in the back of your truck in just a few days. You could see that some of the long term emplyees had cars that were the worst rust buckets I have ever seen from that salt air.
Man I hope you got that stuff washed off pronto.

I dunno about any product endorsment, but I heard that if you use an oscillating lawn sprinkler under the vehicle for a coupla of hours in stratigic places it will remove all the salt from the nooks and crannies of your chassis.......I use this tech. on my daily drivers after a long hard winter....they salt the crap out of the roads around here......thats why we have no tin.
...anyways....thats a pretty cool badge of honour(for the short term at least) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Looks sweet and was a blast doing it but what a mess it can make. I bet it was worth it though. Still wanting to make Bonneville.

Hey Detonator
Great to meet you at b/ville.And thanks for posting photos of the roadster. We were in the pits working on the coupe when they shut the course.Didn,t know that it rained at the start line until I ran into a foot of water at lands end.
I,m still cleaning the car.WD 40 on everything.Throttle linkage and door latches all seized up.
Came home on highway 40 which was great until we hit rain at Steamboat Springs and hail going over Loveland pass.I had icicles hanging off my hat.

No problem Elmo.I was busy too.New car bugs with the comp coupe. Not enough cam or gearing.Blew a water hose off, water down the injector etc, etc. We still had a great time as usual.Spent all Wednesday with Pete Vincent doing a photoshoot on the cars. That guy burns film like it is free.
Poteet went 191 in FIRST gear!! Miscommunication with the engine/trans guy
Maine Barons went 200 in Sam,s coupe,he must be smiling up there.
See you guys next year.

We upped our E/GR record from 197 to 202 and someone snuck our E/FR record from 213 to 214 so we moved it up to 231. That oughta give something to shoot for. Which coupe was yours? Wayno

Our car was VGCC 723.Black chopped/channelled 31 Chev with an injected 296 cube flathead.Running 16 and 18 inch indy tires and Penn tags. The car had teething problems but nothing that can,t be fixed by the World Finals.

That stuff is the cats ass, I sprayed the underbody of the vert before I left for B'ville. When I got the car up on my hoist after I got home the only place there was ANY salt at all was on top of the front crossmember. Ran through some rain on the way to the drags but I have done that before with other cars and there was still a bunch of salt on them. I am completely sold on this stuff.

Elmo-- good to meet you, and way to go! We weren't so lucky. Ran 222 on the A/GR record in the first mile -- then ran out of gas http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Steve -- good to meet you, too. Here's some pix of your coupe. Good looking pit, you could blink and go back 40 years...

That's aussiesteve eyeballing me and my camera -- could it be a spy from another pit? Here's another pic...

Same here Detonator. Hey Steve, I commented to a friend of mine "That's the way a Model A Coupe is supposed to look." when we saw your car. Regarding World Finals, I'll be crewing on the Kelly & Hall Lakester unless someone tracks me down and gives me a job. Wayno

When I left on Tuesday morning I noticed that someone had left their pet (blow up) sheep (or was that somebody's date?) impaled on the shifter in that roadster. It wasn't until later that day that it occurred to me that even though the blow up sheep had the shifter deep inside itself, it was still holding air. That's sick, very sick.

BTW Steve, I gave CT the message.

Hey DETONATOR.I wasn,t wondering if you were a spy-just curious why you were not working on the car with us.Ha Ha.
ELMO,thanks for the compliment,everybody thinks it,s a model A not a Chev.
DRD57,my Birthday present on the shifter definately got a lot of comments, especially the lipstick.Did you happen to notice the small plastic tits hanging on the windshield?
Ps Thanks for giving Cal my message.
Hey no point in going if you aren,t having a good time.
