Just left Wilson Welding...Bob was pulling the first positive molds from the original peices. He is forcasting 6 to 8 months out on availibility on complete sets and parts.
These will be made to fit old Ford front and rears.

100% American made Kinmont brakes....how cool is that!
Just thought id share.

That's really cool...

Last time I talked to him, he told me that there wasn't enough intrest there to justify his reproducing them.

Glad to hear that's changed.

From what I remember, they were surprisingly affordable too...

This thread was posted 3 years ago with a forecast of 6 to 8 months till production. Does anyone have any idea if this production will eventuate?

My advice is to call Bob and ask him.

I know he's been close to production for a long time now, but I think the initial buy-in cost of getting the casting going has been detrimental to his progress.

Maybe if enough people were interested and willing to make a deposit he could get the first batch going.

Ok, Time to show my ignorance. I've always heard of these, but never a chance to see any up close. They're disc brakes? Where's the rotor? Caliper? I'm looking at the set on Ebay and just don't see how they work. School me, please.

think of two drum symbols with a disc between the two, brakes are applied with a lever which clamps.

There is also a kinmot 'drum brake' unit, thats the one the 'Wilson Welding guys' do, using the 48 & early f1 drum bits.

Cheers,

I get it now. It's a pressure plate/disc/flywheel sort of deal where the clutch disc is turned on the outside by the wheel, the rest being stationary. Cool!
