Usta figure 8 race at Dorsey Speedway in dorsey Md. back in the 60's. Lotsa fun till you get caught in the X. Tracks been gone now for a loooog time. it's a shopping center / industrial park now http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Ah the memories...

Gosh leadsled. Its been years since I even thought about the figure 8 races. I remember Wide World of Sports having the 8 s from Islip, NY on Saturday evening. They were real nail biters! Hope you find the info you are looking for and Good luck.

My pops raced figure 8 for about 14 yrs in Indy at the Speedrome. I remember him telling about once getting hit in the crossover. Afterwards he could put his elbows on both doors. It used to be low buck fun in the 60's and 70's, but now its like most racing, big $$ and no purse. He still has all the pictures of him with the trophy gal in one arm and the checkers in the other. His car of choice for a long time was the '50 plymouth business coupe. Man, i have lots of memories of watching him race when i was a kid.

we have school bus figure 8 racing up here in elko minnesotahttp://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifand cars with trailers at raceway what a riot
Friday, August 31 - Eve of Destruction 7:30pm
Full blown mayhem - plenty of crashes - roll overs galore! The Eve of
Destruction will showcase racing and wrecks. Roll over contest (drivers launch their left side off a ramp and roll for points, and a trophy - fools!); Figure 8 race (close calls in the crossroads of doom); Spectator Drags (fans in the stands go one-on-one in street legal vehicles); and everyone's favorite, the Figure 8 Trailer Race (take out your opponent's
trailer-last one standing wins). In addition, Elko Speedway's entry level Bomber cars will compete in a NASCAR points race and the Legends cars will race as well. Tickets are $12 for adults; $5 youth (5-12); parking is free.
