I was working on my merc in the garage tonight with the doors open and this humming bird came in and was flying around. We've got feeders around the yard so it din't surprise me, but the bird couldn't find it's way out of the garage. When it finally landed, I was able to pick it up and I carried it outside figuring it would fly away, but it just sat in my hand so I figured it had got hurt. Had the camera near so I snapped a pic. Put my hand up and it flew away. Thought it was cool. yea I know, not enough for dinner, but worth sharing!!

Check the stuff in your feeders... make sure it hasn't fermented... seriously!
I worked at the Alabama Wildlife Rescue Service for years, and every year in late fall, we would get people bringing us migratory birds like cedar waxwings, that had feasted on old berries (that had fermented) and had gotten drunk. Folks would bring them in saying "I think it must have gotten hit or something, its been just walking around in my yard for hours"... we'd just put them in a box with some water, and let them sleep it off, and release them the next day (prolly with hangovers) hahaha! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, and I'm glad he flew away... it is soooo easy for their little air filled bones to break... they are very delicate.
Everyone should volunteer for a wildlife rescue service if there is one near you... the experience is great. I've held a bald eagle in my hands, bottle fed bobcat and mountain lion cubs, reworked broken feathers on hawks and owls so they could fly again, rescued countless possums, coons, woodchucks, otters, and even hand fed baby armadillos. I wouldn't trade those experiences for all the tea in China!

When they are still, they are in pretty bad shape... you're little buddy there was not only exhausted but also dehydrated and starving... they have to eat every 15 minutes to keep up their energy.

Jim, Mike, Can't make it tonight, but I will get there yet this year. How late into the fall is it going to be running?
Tonight I have to get set up for a Cruise I am running on Saturday. In fact if you guys aren't doing anything, you should try and get out. It's in my town Rochester. The annual Town Country Fair starts tonight and goes through the weekend. I am running a Car Cruise for cars, trucks, etc 1972 and older. It starts Saturday at 9:00am and runs til 2:00pm. Dash plaques to the first 100 cars. It's set up right across the street from the fairgrounds so it's good for free parking! They have a bunch of good stuff going on at the Fair Saturday, so think about it. Let me know if you can come and I will get you directions. Send me an email.

I've dealt with capuchin monkeys too... in college I was working toward a degree in primatology, and worked at a facility on campus that told the public that they were purely a breeding facility... but in fact it was my job to sit and watch and record monkeys' actions as they slowly die from diseases we gave them. I know that animal research has to be done but I couldn't stomach it and it put me off primatology all together, so I switched to archaeology instead... another useless degree that took 10 years to pay off. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
