I just pulled the power plant SBC last Friday the 13th. And now I have few question. After measuring I think I need
1. A shorter water pump ? Are there any?
2. A smaller distributor? What a good but not to much money way to go?
Thanks Brooding Swede

A stock points distro is about as small as you're going to get. Napa Online sells them CHEAP (like suprisingly so). MSD billet distro's are the same size and not too expensive either.

Gm has 2 different sized water pumps, a 9" which you have, and a short 6". You usually find the 6" pumps on older SBC engine but are readily available from any parts store, you just have to specify that you want a short water pump. As for the distributor, if you want the HEI, MSD is your best bet for size as edmurder has already stated. The factory HEI is pretty damn big eh. I have one on my 350 in the 67 and it's huge. I placed my engine furhter back than stock and the HEI sits right up against the firewall.

Summit racing sells some electronic dizzys that I think are smaller in diameter than the stock ones. 200.00.
Only two choices that I know of for pumps. The short type with a 1 inch space to the block and long pump. PJ>
Put a flatty back in there and you wouldnt have these problems!

Along with the short water pump you'll need to change the pullies and alternator brackets to match the new pump.

NEVER I REPEAT NEVER......Buy a Summit distributor. I have a brand new HEI from them that plagued me for months. I finally got a hold of a total timing light(the one with the knob) and found out that the distributor had 80 degrees of advance built into it. They wouldn't take it back...they said I didn't know how to figure my advance... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I pulled it stuck a stock distributor in it and the problem went away. FWIW.

I bought an MSD "Ready-to-run" dizzy, which is electronic and still small. Can't remember the price, but I've had it a long time and it's worked great.

What do you need a smaller distributor for? Is it firewall clearance?
CUT IT! Install that beat up wheelbarrel tub behind your house.
What are you doing in that one pic...Having sex with that thing? You perverted homo. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Just give up....
Trade me that 350 for my 235. You'll be happier in the long run. This 235 will look sweet in your hooptie.
Good luck. Give me a call and let me know whats up with the dizzy....

Check for Unilites on egay and swapmeets but watch out the module cost about 90 bucks.and you need to run a resister.. and when you change the water pump you have to change the pulleys and brackets !!!
