So I pull up to this old auto repair shop. Theres a man standin' out beside the building, so I get out and ask "That thing for sale" pointing toward the vehicle that has obviously been setting there awhile.
The man kinda' chuckles and responds "Na, Im gonna fixer up one day"..................................... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
How many times have we all heard that?

Heard that line too many also. Neat ride's, the early El Camino are the best. Good timing, the need for resurecting one of these to replace one that was wrecked last Fri. Good post.

We should be allowed to claim a vehicle that has obviously been deglected for more than one decade!!!
It would be a shame if that thing turned up missing! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yeah...I always hated "I'm gonna's"!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
An 'I'm Gonna' is the automotive equivalent of a 'Wannabe'...at the owner's hands:
He waits till someone asks about the dillapidated old wreck he hasn't touched in years, then launches into his comfy old routine...
"I'm Gonna fix it up one day. First I'm Gonna put a new engine in...a 350, then I'm Gonna paint it and I'm Gonna get me some new wheels, and then I'm Gonna drive it to car shows and I'm Gonna win me some trophies..."
In reality, the only thing the vehicle is to them is their last shred of self worth...it gives them a reason to launch into wide-eyed daydreams aloud everytime someone asks about it...it's worth more than it's weight in GOLD to 'em for just that reason!!!

When I was in high school back in 82 I found a 40 linc coupe in this guys back yard,it was sweet solid rust free all the glass was good, but his son was going to do something with it some day, tweny years later I come back and the coupes still there,so I ask the guy living there now (who is the old mans son)if he would sell it and he says, naw mu sons going to do something with it someday. I told him that was exactly what his dad said tweny years ago. The coupe is still there, all the glass is busted out so now the interior is trashed, but it would be so sweet.

my 2 60 belairs, one a more dooor and the other a 2 door , i spent years trying to buy the 2 door because it matched my other exactly in color and options, turned out it was titled in the guys ex wifes name, and he wouldnt bring that up, i took the plate number and had it ran and i called up the exwife and asked how much would you need to piss off your ex hubby ?haha she said get a tow truck and a sheriff and we will go get it for nothing , she had always wanted the car back but was afraid to go and get it ,until i called, he was kind of upset he didnt get any money out of it,cuz he bought it new for her, this was 25 yrs later and they were both still pissed at each other, ahhh the memories i must have rekindled http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As fast as cars go down hill around here, I'd guess that elky has only been sitting 4 or 5 years at the most. I have found if there is an old car setting where you can see it in East Texas, it isn't for sale or it would be gone. The story here is"my Daddy bought that car new" I had been noticing this 67 Ford shoetbed setting beside a shop and one day I saw the big door open and stopped in. The lady said"that was my Daddy's, he bought it new" I said "well do you think your daddy would rather see someone fix it up or see it setting here rotting into the ground". It still sits.
