View Full Version : Dual Exhaust, How Much?! With Pics...
Called around to various muffler shops and I was quoted from $375 to $480 for dual exhaust including glasspacks for a 49 with a 302 sbf. Seems a, "BIT HIGH", to me, but what have the rest of you paid? Oh, here's a before:

yep, a bit high.
275 to 300 range max, less you are springing for some high zoot mufflers or fancy tips.
I just had the pipe's done on my '53 chevy. A guy i know does them at his house, he's got the bender and stuff there. He's not really any cheeper than the shops around here, but his quality is high.
I brought him my mufflers and he ran the pipe's.
It's a inline so there was some work involved in getting eveything to fit just right, but i paid 275.
so if ya figure in the cost of the muff's too, maybe 325 total..
i think their price "range" seems a bit much...at least more than i've paid for all the one's i've had done.

I paid $300 canadian and 12 cans of cold beer or about $225 u.s.d in june to have duals installed on my 64 Impala wagon, this was a complete system from the manifolds back including new "packs". I know he gave me a good deal as he always hooks me up, says it took him most of the day. Now if I could only get the nuts that hold the collector to the manifold to stay tight for more than 500 miles I'd be in great shape. I think DUDE is trying to stick it to Ya. The photochop is GREAT...
Yeah, I thought it was a bit high, but wanted to compare. I'll buy my own glasspacks, can get them a checkers or something for alot less than the $100/pair I was quoted. While I'm on the subject, 2" pipe is pretty standard isn't it?

The two inch pipe for a ford smallblock is probably the right choice.

yeah HOLMES,,,no more than two BILLS....
Hey thanks guys, I appreciate your words! Bradberry00, I thought the chop was great, loved the kanted piller look and black rims is totally what I wanted. I'd love to see your better version! Tomorrow I have to finish up the throttle linkage and hopefully still have enough time to make it to the muffler shop. BTW, can anyone show some pics on how they hooked up their throttle linkage. Again it's a 49 Ford, 302/C4 combo. Thanks again...

You need to move to Missouri. My 3" system cost $165 and that was with two $50 "Full Boar" Turbo's.
bradberry thats rad! what program are you using? the danzig ride is definitely the best! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I paid $240 from manifolds to tips in my 54. It was a good price, other places want that plus and extra $50

I hate taking my car anywhere to get it worked on. That includes exhaust work. I don't like people touching my stuff, they normally screw it up.
I paid $50 for my dual exhaust system. I made it myself and I made it exit in front of the rear wheels cause I ran out of donor exhaust pipe.
The $50 was for a pair of Thrush mufflers. I didn't figure ol' Johnny Law would like me without um.

A lot depends on the rent the shop has to pay in your area. I get 400 for Flowmaster dual systems including big chrome tips. 350 for turbos or glass packs. Big city rents....big city prices.
