Yea, I know I'm gonna get a shitload of crap for changing anything on FuelPump's 37, but hey, I had to do something to make it mine. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I didn't plan on changing the color for about a year, but I traded some tattoo work for some paint work. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Kind of like when I got a harley for my wife. Not a bad trade eh? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The flames were on it already. We taped over em and re pinstriped. Paint guy screwed up and sanded off the flames on the roof. I don't know weather I'll put them back or not.

That was a really excellent choice to set it apart from every other flat black car out there, well done! and grats on it!

You have my approval, blue is my favorite color. I'm seeing a departure from flat black and it's refreshing that some new choices are being tried.

It's Deltron basecoat without the clearcoat. We added hardner in the basecoat instead of the clearcoat. We threw some Purple Pearl (powdered) just for the heck of it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Your's and Rich's are the two I'm most concerened with. Hey! now that I got your attention, who built the motor? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I got at least 3 guys that want to know the EXACT cam that was used. due to the sound. No one cares how much power it adds, but the sound it fantastic! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

HRH,

Very nice, let us see a couple more pics. I wish I had anything straight enough to justify a new coat of paint. Trading tends to keep the tax man outa my pocket.

When i read the subject line i started thinking "O NO! Should i tell him it looks ugly or let everyone else do it?" But i dont have to tell you it looks ugly cus its even more bitchin than it already was! Great color choice.

I like it ! The flat blue really looks good.
Paint the tail lights blue too. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Now its truely yours. Its amazing how we don't feel an attachment to these cars until we change them. Its an extension of our personality. I wonder how the goldchainers even appreciate what they own without doing something to them.
Good color choice.

Looks great! Is the grille still red?

Yes the grill is still red. The only thing changed was the body color.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I took lots of pictues of the striping on the fenders and trunk so we can replicate them line for line. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

looks great, i am a big fan of no base/no clear. so will this type of paint hold up to uv rays? does the hardner keep it from scratching and give it some protection w/o clear coat?

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, by putting the hardener in the base, it does give the same protection for scratching and chalking. During tech week, a thread on California Suede, one guy said he thought it would be susceptible to UV. That has not been my experience, but I am no expert. I have done a couple of cars like this, and know of at least a few others that have not had a problem with fading or chalking. Certainly no worse than DP90 or color added to primer. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hey I know that Car!!!!! Thanks to a real good friend/teacher, I was able to help with the paint prep which really spike my interest into the building scene!!

A brief intro..... I live in the Detroit Metro area and am more into the bike scene than the cars. my only mode of transportation at this time is my 2001 sporty (My van took a shit on me) and I ride the hell out of it! Rain, snow, or shine I'll be riding. I really don't know a hell of alot but I'm learning pretty quickly by reading and paying attention to all that post here and on the other boards!

I know its short but hey so am I!

damn that looks great! so just basecoat and hardener eh? could you still do a flattened clear coat and keep that satin look?

I want a satin finish too but thought I would prolly need a clearcoat so it holds up in the rain around here.

HotRodHon
08-20-2004, 06:44 PM
The problem with flattened clear coats is they are hard to control. If the weather is too cold, it takes to long to set up and you end up with some flat and some shiny. Hardner in the base takes care of water but I think the jury is still out on UV.

Hey Stogie...welcome to the board.....Your first "Cover Car" now resides on the left coast....lets build something else!!!

The BC/CC paints get their UV protection from the clear and the clear only....hardener is just that...hardener.
