Ok I just finished putting on all the new brake hardware and then I blead the brakes. I tried them with the car off and they worked. When I started the car the peddle went soft and I had no brakes.I turned it off pumped the peddle a few times and then the peddle was hard again. Whats up. Do I need to bleed them more or is it something else? 1960 Olds 88. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You never said you adjusted them. Did you? All 4 wheels with a slight drag. You'll never get a good pedal until you do.

yeah you DUMBASS!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gifwith the Bendix brakes you need to turn the self adjusters out (using a screwdriver through the little slot) untill they drag just slightly when you turn the drums by hand. your welcome http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif...

Yea. And when you get a little drag push the pedal down hard and let it off. This will center the shoes and sometimes the drag will go away and you can adjust them up a little more.

I think you should just give up and let your brother have the car.
