Howza Bruthas,
I am looking at a set of rearends that are in a field in Portland. Both are similar and feature mechanical brakes. I really would like to use an early style rear on my modified and they would work if the converion is easy enough. Can the juice backing plates and such be adapted to these relativley easy? One is complete and the other is missing the wishbones. Should I grab 'em or keep hunting for a '40 or later setup? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Grab them, sell them to a Model A restorer and use the bucks for the later rear you really want.

Spooky,
If you ever get to AZ, I have a couple of juice brake equipped rears with the wishbones and springs. I don't think I'll use them. Hamb special! Here's a pic..

email if you think you could pick them up down here.

Holy Crap man! Yer awesome! Let me do some digin' and see if I can get in touch with my Great Unk who resides in Arizona in the winter. I know that the rear are probably early V8 types. How does one tell the year on these things? One of the units( Heh, Heh, he said Unit ...)has 16" wheels. I am going by ther today and will let ya know what is left. The area is being cleared out for warehouse space.

MY rear has letters and numbers on it which I matched against part numbers This will tell you the year or a close approximation

Spooky: you need to determine the bolt pattern. ie. 5 on 51/2" or the wide 5 .you might want to attend the next swap meet at the expo center next weekend.the 37-40 rear is the one you should use.i have a 39-40 type under my modified and they look just right.you should have been up to the monroe wash. swap meet today. there was about every thing you would want there.lots of early ford stuff.come down and look at mine if you want to see how one looks.

Sorry to keep pestering the board here with this one, so, Paul, where are the numbers at? And Lakes, where are you from Portland?
One other thing, what year did Ford start using Solids? They are 16"'s. I want to grab them, but not if they are crap, and not if I can turn 'em around easily in case I do not need 'em. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Not to pick on your suggestion, but,
Is there such a person?
All the "restorers" around here are too feeble to still build, or dead, or dying, and there doesn't seem to be (m)anybody(s) joining their ranks in any numbers that would need to scrape together a car from parts.
Seems the few younger "restorers" who do still put them together mostly have their dead dad's or uncle's garages full of parts for free.

I think the most probable use for that kind of stuff is traditional speedsters and track car replicas...Hotrods, not resored cars.

Spooky....Are they Model A rearends ? How do you know ? Fords had mechanical brakes thru '39 I believe.

Model A axles would have the spring ON TOP of the axle.
Don't remember exactly; but the spring moved BEHIND the axle around '33. (and would still have mechanical brakes)

Ya know I just might. I have some parts I need to get rid of so I can fork it over to Danny to buy the frame for my Jalopy project. If I do go, I'll let ya know.
Who knows, I may just bring these two rearends along too. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
