Took my car out last night and this morning for the first time since building it...Got it done at 11 p.m. on Monday night..I have a 66 283 with a T-5. The clutch is slipping really bad...I had the flywheel surfaced and it is a new clutch... My concern is that it may be the wrong pressure plate or clutch disk... I used a new chevy clutch I had that I was going to use on a 4.3 v6. Does anyone know if the pressure plate or clutch disk are diff. between a 4.3 and a 283? Should this work or do I need to pull trans and put in a new clutch? I was told maybe the throw out bearing is hitting the snout on the trans.. It is the tall chevy throwout bearing. Thanks, Jason.

i think that the diaphrm and finger type clutches use a different thickness clutch disc. i'd try to find a matched set.
a small possibility that the throw out bearing is too long. i'd try the bearing first though.

I had a similar problem when the clutch guy I use told me I needed the tall throw-out bearing because I'm running a scattershield. I put it together and the clutch slipped so bad the car would barely move. I changed to the shorter bearing and everything was fine....I'm running the diaphram style pressure plate.
I'd change the throw-out bearing.
Also, how are you actuating the clutch? Are you using a hydraulic (slave cylinder) or mechanical set-up? Have you tried adjusting it?

It is mechanical not hydro..... I have talked to a couple buddies and it is pretty much decided to be the throw out bearing... I know I have the longer style in place.. I am gonna switch it out to the shorter one in the morning..Thanks for all the input..EVILT
