It's a long shot, but I was wondering if anybody might be interested in giving me a second opinion on my Flathead. I would love to find somebody locally who wouldn't mind showing me the ropes of rebuilding one of these guys. My other option is having it done, but I really would like to learn how to do it myself.
I'm located just north of Madison in Windsor, if it matters.
Thanks,
-Scott

Hey Scott, there's a real good one just south of you in Edgerton by the name of Rich Bickle. Old time stock car racer/builder and speaks fluent flathead. He still builds lots of high perf flat motors and has lots of parts. Contact him at 608-884-6932. hope he can help you out.

Max,
I got my initial opinion from Rich. I was just wondering if there were any HAMBers in the area that might lean towards Flatheads. I just want confirmation that my motor is as far gone as he says.
Thanks,
-Scott

He probably did in his earlier days. His kid still races a little with the Nascar trucks and Busch cars and at a few Wisconsin tracks.

There are a couple of guys in Milwaukee, Gordy Teshendorf, and Joe Wincazk. Old guys that know there shit. Gordy has built engines for Brizo. If you come to the CHEATER's show this saturday, I am positive there will be someone there who could help. Cheater Carl is a student of flatheads, he is short and stupid but knows his shit when it comes to flat motors. PM me if you want some info on the show. We would be more than happy to give you some Cheesehead advise.
Later on

Well, I made it up to the cheater show and talked with Carl. Got a lot of good information, but I'm back to wondering what I should do with this engine. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Have it built, or do it myself. The big choices are always easy, aren't they?

Get a hold of side valve. He runs a flatty in a great looking A. I don't know if he did his own motor, but he's in your neighborhood and might be able to point you in the right direction. If you get a chance check out his business The Hot Rod Company (http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/) He's great to do business with.
