Little help if possible....
1949 Chevy Pick up 3 window. The top has been chopped 3 1/2 inches(not well, but fixable). Problem is the center of the roof is dented in pretty bad. I'm having a hard time finding a donor, is there a useable roof section from another vehicle that might work? I can probably make a template off of my 53 and search the junkyards, but I was curious as to whether anyone had been through this before and could save me a little leg work? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Contact KCMongo, he has lots of parts.
Kinda tight fisted with them though... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks.I don't want to take any parts from anyone, I'm tight fisted myself. I never throw anything away, I just keep getting bigger buildings to store shit. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I'll pm him if no one else has any donor alternatives.

A couple of weeks ago I read about somebody doing a chop on the same year model and used an old door skin off the same truck to fill in the roof section. I couldn't find the post, and I've never tried it, I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong. Just something to think about.

I might have one in my secret stash.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The stuff I didn't show Raven, I've got (Pieces) of a 54 chevy cab that's been all chopped up, if you don't find something in the next month I can look when I'm up at the farm then. I kinda think that the roof from that cab is cut in half from side to side but I can dig it out and maybe take pics. Let me know if I need to and I'll see, could be fun getting it to you thought.

This link should take you to the posting about using doors to extend the roof. roof extension (http://hotrodders.com/forums/journal.php?action=view&journalid=2439&page=1&perp age=5&reverse=) You may need to dig back a few pages. This guy is always posting something new. And no, he is not always traditional.

The roof of these cabs differ some depending on year. I'd like to be able to list which are which but I don't recall exactly. The '55 and '55 1st are different from earlier cabs because of the curved glass on these trucks and the split windshield on the earlier trucks.

I haven't found these trucks that hard to find cheap. You might look for a bigger truck, the cabs are the same on the 1-1/2 ton trucks and those trucks can be hard to give away.

thanks for the replies! The door skin method appears the way to go. However, if that doesn't work out I'll let you know. KC I appreciate the offer, but like you said, getting it to me would be a bitch. I'll post pics of the project once we get started.

hey, I'll be slicing the roof off a 53 4-door sedan this weekend because it's one of the few good parts left off the car. If that'll work for ya, you can have it.
