hey all, need some opinions on car styles and types, i think that my car fits but i wouldnt have a gasser if it were not for my older brothers and theyve tought me so much over the years and i would like to bring them in to my new found family, the H.A.M.B .
now i know that we have all got our own ideas but all have followed the trends of you lot over the pond and where as i might be lucky enough to have built a car that fits but do they (i help with there builds too)

my eldest brother chris's car is a 1971 ford zephyr ,396 b/b chevy bored to 402, semi high lift cam, pop up pistons, steel crank, th350 trans built (in his kitchen) with modiefied drive drum with extra clutches, B&M shift kit, high stall converter ford lincon 9" rear axle with detroit locker and 4.11 gears, 10pt roll cage, 4x15 & 14x15 RODLITES and all home made IFS and four bar rear all on air (see attached photos)
and then you have my other brother nick's car which there was only 500 ever made its a 1972 opel commodore running a ford 302 bord to 307 TCI trans and is in the style of what we would call a sleeper but i dont have any pictures at present of that one

No and no. The HAMB is pre-64.

They are more than welcome to read the forum though :) Great place for info.

That Commodore (We have them over here in Aus.. Not Opel though.. and the earlier ones look a little different..) rear end looks similar to an LH / LX Torana ('74 / '75ish) rear though.

thanks for the quick reply star i knew that i had read somewhere about pre 64 but you know what its like when you want to find something and the pictures are all the zephyr i dont have any of the opel but you do have the holden equivelent over there in oz it looks like a bmw 6 series 2dr coupe but thanx all the same

I always admire the forthought to bring your own picnic table with you wherever you go.

Over here is seems it the Ford Probe crowd that is concerned with not finding a regular table at the picnic grounds.

I still suffer through with a blanket in that case.

I know it's a Traditional only forum, but I don't remember anyone ever stating it as a rule that it's strictly pre-64. I mean really anything much after 64 really wouldn't fit in, but the only rule I've ever read just says "Traditional hot rods and kustoms".

True that. I just know some mid 60's full sized cars that make really nice fairly traditional customs. Big low and slow cruisers. Rust belt guys sometimes have to settle for what there budget will allow.

That's it in a vague nutshell, so pre any American "Muscle Car" era car (Mustang, Camaro, Roadrunner, GTO etc.) era is what I see it as wanting to keep out.
Reason being is they are seen as being the responsible villian for the "going away" of Hotrods in the '60's :mad:

But saying something like no '65 Rivieras allowed but '63's are ok is silly since it's the same body car.

my dream rod would be an all steel 32 5 window un chopped with kelsey wires or chrome steels either with wide whites
BUT in the uk non excistent so we have to make do with wot we can with what ever funds are available

I have a truck (f1) built in 1951, if I sold it would I not be able to stay on the forum?

I like your Nova. It was the one out at the HAMB & Scrapple right? I think cars like that fit in well around here. Not everyone wants or can afford a Model A, but there's still a lot of guys that like that "Old School" look. If you hate all the billet and bad paint jobs that cost more than all my cars combined the HAMB is a great place to be.

There's no car inspection required to join and post. That said don't expect to get a warm welcome if you post up pics of your 80's pro street Mustang either.

Lots of guys who hang out may never get anything built, we just need some cutoff date and 63 works. Respect it, there are plenty of other forums to talk about your newer cars. And yes, most often people with a 65 Riv or Chevy 2 will be allowed but it is only common good manners to ask first and get permission and quit trying to sneak some borderline shit in under the radar.
Also this is not the place to talk about you VW no matter how old it is.

Yup... that's the one. Aside from the wheels, and the fact that it is a '65, I'd say it fits the HAMB mold w/ rolled and pleated interior, vintage vette valve covers on the 327, etc, etc.

Fact is, I enjoy this place more than many of the other forums where folks are obsessed with trailer queens and high buck cars. When I was a kid I got introduced to this hobby helping my Dad with a low buck, homebuilt '40 Chevy coupe. That car would have definitely fit-in here.

I can't relate to a $50k show car, or a mega-dollar dragstrip warrior. I also don't dig the lawnchair car show scene. I like to work on my car and drive it, even if that means using it to run down to the local grocery store on a nice evening. That seems to be the same sort of attitude that many here share. My car is far from perfect, but it is fun! :)

Being an early '60s car (pre-"muscle car" era) that was likely on the drawing board in the late 1950s, I think my car has more in common w/ a 60 Impala than a '70 Chevelle.

For the rest of the Board its a little more loose, as far as age goes.
But the style in which its built is at least as important.

This Car with its Tubbed Rear Wheels and Aluminum Rear Wing does not fit, IMO...

And, the spirit that you build your car with can be more or less traditional too. A '63 Impala tastefully done as a Hot Rod is better than one that is all gacked out with every gee gaw you can stick on it. There has to be rules on years, mine's a '65 and not in the range, but it is in the spirit. I'll read and contribute my 40 years of wrenching, I don't care if I can ever show or race my car, thats beside the point. I respect the people who set the rules and thats just it, I will abide by them. I have posted a pic or two of my stuff and thats enough. If someone asks me about something that I have had some experience with, I'll reply. My father-in-law has 2 '35 Fords, a pickup and a sedan that I have worked on for the whole time he has had them. They aren't mine, so I don't own a hot rod or custom, just a nice fast '65 Galaxie and a '65 F250 4X4. I won't ask any questions here on them, there are other places for that, and I don't expect anyone to change the rules to suit me. I asked if I could have my wife run the Galaxie at the HAMB drags and there was no answer, so I assume the answer is no. That's cool, its the rules. My car was built in '64, early production but it is a '65. Plain and simple

I've done laptop tuning on turbo cars, put lift kits on 4X4s, but thats not the topic here. The '35 Fords are, and I won't hesitate to talk about them.

now firstly i would like to thank everybody about their input in this i would also like to say that some of the replys were uncalled for,

so as for someones pride and joy being classed as BODERLINE SHIT
just because of the age of the car IMO is bullshit i can name 1 organisation that would politly tell the owners of vehicles after a certain year of production lets say 1949 that they didnt fit in
so if you owned say a 63 ford you also would be told where to go
so if you wanted to find out you WOULD ask wouldnt you (SORT OF LIKE THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD)

i would like to add that i have sat in the side lines and watched for a while if you look at the rest of the threads i have responded to i think i have kept within the rules and all i did was ask a simple question
what would be the point of signing up to a forum where you would be ignored and insulted
