OK, should have paid more attention to posts on this in the past.

Started working on the '46 axle and bones for the A tonight. Cut off the ball, no problemo. Had soaked the wishbone bolts with penetrating oil well before.but a half inch drive and a cheater wouldn't buge them.

So... no problem, get torch and split the nut, ( going with spring over the axle so will be buying new perches anyway). Slice nut down both sides and get a chisel to knock off the two halves but man after wailing away at them for a few minutes I decide that the nut must go farther down in the bone than I thought.

How far recessed is the nut? I don't want to goober up the bones so bad I can't clean them up.

It is countersunk about 1/4"

It's tapered like a wheel nut.

Ok, that makes a little more sense. Guess tomorrow I'l break out the torch again and a small chisel that will fit down inside and see if I can split it all the way down.
Thanks Guys.

The first set I took apart, I thought the only way was to drill straight down the center of the perch bolt after I cut the nut off (chiseled it out in little pieces) and ground it flat. After I drilled all the way down the (relative) center of what's left I took the biggest EZ out I had and had somebody tap lightly on the top of it as I turned it in and broke it loose. The other side took a little heat on the outside of the axle boss and a center punch to smack it out. I didn't reuse the axle.

That was before I discovered P.B.Blaster. Last one I did wouldn't budge even with the impact, PB Blaster, wait overnight and spray again before you start on it. Didn't even need the impact, came out with an ordinary 1/2" ratchet.
