This morning I read a reply to a thread that has had me thinking all day. The reply was VERY CRUDE AND SEXUAL in nature and seemed outaplace even within the context of the thread. I'm no saint but I was shocked by the language. Am I just so out of touch with our 21st century culture? Is this type of commentary typical nowadays? Do people really talk that way in mixed company? It wasn't the usual *x@#^! you buddy" type comment.

While I don't personally know any of them, there seems to be some VERY nice gals who frequent the HAMB. I would be embarassed if my wife read that comment. I feel like someone needs to apologize to the HAMB ladies. ...what do you all think?

By the way....I apologize to the ladies on behalf of some of the rest of us.

Society has gone downhill since I was a kid. But when I see the trash that is on T.V. in this day and age, I can see why..

I never talk that way around women or any man that I don't know.
My life is better for it.

Not sure what you're speaking of. You got a link to said thread? It can't have been THAT bad.

My dad always told me, "There is no excuse for bad behavior", and I would agree, The net seems to offer people the opportunity to be rude and obscene, without having to suffer normal consequences. Many take advantage of it.

I for one do not talk that way at any time, as a Christian I have to set an example.

I Moved this from the Main Board to the Q & S Forum.

I also checked my Emails, no one reported the Reply you were talking about.

And there is no Link to it in this Thread either...

There are any number of shop injuries which call for some rather unseemly language, which I am careful never to utter in the presence of others, particularly those male or female, that I know to be more sensitive. There aren't many/any internet threads, even on the HAMB, that call for such vile language. But the 'net makes it all to easy to pretend to be a big boy. I,too, apologize for those who cannot express themselves without swearing .

ive always have said that people who use that kind of language lack the intelligence to come up with the right words to express themselves. now with that said .......if i make myself a victim in the shop working on the hot rod, or a simple part will not fit or go on no matter what i do........well i have let out a few obscenities and thrown a few wrenches. but that kinda falls back on the intelligence thing doesn't it ?!?!?

what do you all think?

Well...

Since you asked for an opinion...

The most foul mouth person I've known has died of old age, so its not a generational thing.

He was also described as a Genius, so it's not an Intelligence thing either.

An occasional bad word doesn't bother me nearly as much as useless Drama, which is what this is unless somebody lets us know what exactly was said that prompted this Thread.

And, I've always thought typing things like F*ck, or say Gosh or Darn is lame.

If you want to use the word, use it.
Or use a completely different word alltogether...

I am a rude, crude, lewd, and whatever adjective you might want to use. Why are people such wussies these days? If there was a thread reference it would be different, otherwise it is just another passive-aggressive gesture to make policy change without sticking your neck out and confronting a behavior like it should be. If you don't like what I have to say, then say so. It doesn't bother me in the least. As for manners going down hill, you evidently didn't grow up where I did. I could cuss like a sailor before I started school. That doesn't make me stupid, or at least it doesn't when I get out the tools and get someone's car, computer, drill press, milling machine (substitute your choice) running for them after they had abandoned all hope when their cell phone was out of service or their credit card was full on a Sunday afternoon. If you want Mr. Rodger's discourse start your own site. This one is cool, and just on the right tone for me.

Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house, because I get a kick out of using a homemade catapult to shoot a flaming volkswagon back. BTW, this is just my opinion and it should be of no offense to anyone else's. I'll be starting a P.h.d. program here up the road, but I don't pretend to be something I am not regardless of the fact that I read as much or more than the average trained bear.

F*ck is the most miss understood word in the English language, it is really not a bad word here is a link that will explain it better than I can............ http://www.nailmaster.ru/fuck.html

By the way....I apologize to the ladies on behalf of some of the rest of us.

Thanks for being so kind and considerate. I do not know what thread you are referring to but it really doesn't matter, I appreciate you thinking of us ladies here. Most foul languge doesn't bother me (a couple of words do) but I knew from the start the HAMB was like hanging out with the guys in the garage and depending on who's garage I was in, and the guys there as well, depended on the languge used.

I've grown some pretty thick skin since obtaining my first internet access in early 2000.

You are a great person, and you have my respect in every way Denise. As always, if I ever say anything to offend let me know. I don't want to give the wrong idea. I do respect the moral limits of others and care about the offense taken. But, as a general rule, confronting bad behavior needs a referential example, not a generality passive-aggressive comment to face it. I see such things as cowardly and drama-seeking. I have the utmost respect for the ladies on the board, but I do know that my aunt Pauline had as colorful of a vocabulary as anyone in the "crew." She could hang a lit Marlboro and bang 4 gears in her Chevelle as well as any of the guys, and she wasn't of any "questionable" sexual orientation, she was married to the man who taught me nearly everything I knew about cars before age 17. I would feel sexist if I pretended to worry about "mixed company". Children yeah, sure. But, clever innuendo and such regardless of gender can be quite funny.

I respectfully disagree. I think linking the post would have just created more drama while this post is a generalization and gives us all food for thought since sometimes we forget that many lurkers of both genders and all age groups read the HAMB.

If the orginal poster wanted to single out anyone all he would have had to do was report the post for bad taste but then only the bad taste poster would have been given some food for thought. On the other hand all those that read this thread now might think twice before posting something that might be considered extremely offensive to his fellow members, both male and female, young and old.

I still think the post should be reported to the moderator as you said, and you we agree that it would create a bigger issue to directly link it for everyone to weigh in on. It should be directly confronted though by someone who can do something about it, if they don't have a frame of reference, what can they do? This thread is food for thought, because I believe we are all decent people here who love to have fun with our cars and the people we meet along the way who are involved with them.

I will post accordingly by this understanding because to me no offense is given or taken either way. And I thank you for the kind advice and guidance, friend.
