Isn't the shift light controlled by your tach?
When your tach reaches where the needle is set the shift light should come on. Ignition shouldn't make any difference.

You will need to hook it to just one coil and set it
up as a 4 cylinder. I have a tach on my roadster setup
that way. ----- Russ
Russ Martin has a 24 Buick with a Nailhead running a Flamethrower with two coils.

use a four cylinder sending unit and connect to one primary terminal only one post where condenser mounts
