I am building a '56 Studebaker 2 door sedan--it's a Champion (originally a flathead 6), but it will be getting a later 1964 "R1" Studebaker Avanti V8 engine (block all done sitting on an engine stand--wrenching begins in the morning!), a Borg Warner T-85 3-speed with vintage Hust Shifter and a Dana 44 with 4:27 gears with a Lock-Rite.
The front and rear suspension will be bone-stock with the exception of traction bars in the back (stock '63/'64 Studebaker "Jet Thrust" over the axle bars) and a big-time brake upgrade.

There are alot of Stude people on here. Iread your thread over on the racing Studebaker site . I'm also building a 56 Champion 2dr,only my engine won't be as hot as yours. I'm using a 259 and maybe a T-10.

Here are the pics I took the day I bought the '56 for $200 back in December. A LOT of work since then.

Hey Bro, If they aren't welcome I joined the wrong forum. I have a 51 Studebaker Truck that runs 11's and is getting final paint right now. If you care to have a look to check it out at

There is pics of the tear down and pics on the way back up. I did everything except build the automatic trans which is an Art Carr Item.
You have to go to the car section or the Studebaker section and then click on the link for the pictures.

Love C-Cab Stude trucks. My wife drives one as her daily ride--it's her ONLY vehicle and she's put over 100K miles on it over the past 12-13 years. Last year we treated the ol' pickup to a full-boat restoration. It's got a "cloverleaf" heavy duty '64 289 replacement V8 with a T85 and a 3:73 Dana twin traction rear end and it's pretty much BONE stock other than the Pendleton blanket/leather interior, 12v conversion with Delco alternator and an Edlebrock AFB. No radio, no power anything. My wife is 49 years old, 5'3" and 115 lbs and she LOVES the old beast!

I fell in love with the Studebaker V8 when I took my first one apart about 25 years ago. The quality of the forgings make Brand X stuff look like the "built to a price" motors they were. The Stude crankshaft is really a thing of beauty and the rods are really nice for stock pieces. Built with care, this stock stuff can spin 7000 rpm with little trouble.
Stude heads, on the other hand . . . .
