I have a set of S-10 rear srings would like to cut them down and use as Quarter eleptic on rear of modified. Any body use them like this or have another spring to suggest?
Car is about 102"-105" wheelbase, steelbodied and probaly 1600#'s-1800#'s

buckethead here on the hamb just used a set of dodge caravan rear springs on the rear of his modified. he just cut them to length he needed and redrilled the center bolt hole. they worked great as the are a real flat spring to start with.
Of course, this is just my meager thoughts on the subject, but if I were to do this, and I have contemplated it, this is how I'd tackle it.
Without getting into spring rates and issues like that, A basic setup could easily be built. I would mount the springs coming rearward out of the framerail and build a mount on the bottom of the axle to accept the eye of the spring. If you have a Z'd step in the frame, you can build mounts higher, that connect a diagonal link toward the top, center of the 3rd member( one each side). When viewed from the side, it would be important to make sure the lower leaf and upper link are parallel, also, if you picture the end of the frame where the leaf exits as the pivot point, that should be the same point (fore and aft) that the upper link takes off from. Other than that, a couple of shock mounts, outboard as far as possible and you are done. What is neat, is that from the rear, you will have a relatively uncluttered rear suspension, with the axle being the predominant feature.
You could also build in screw jacks throught hte bottom of the frame to raise or lower the ride height a bit.

Jeem:
I have built a few very sinilar to what you have discribed.
The Screw-Jack is very important.
How do they ride? I suppose a great deal of that answer would be in how long the leafs are, the rates, the shocks, etc, etc.. Basically, this setup is the same thing as a triangulated 4 bar situation, only better because you've killed two birds with on stone (springs=lower links)

Glenn,
Do you have any pictures of your set up?

Thanks for all the replies, I was going to fab an uneven 4 link for the back but I guess I just need the top links.
On the screw-jack, is there a distance min.-max. from the center eyelet bolt that is ideal?

Hamb member called Lakesmod has the same setup, but his website don't seem to work anymore and I haven't seen him post for a while.

HMMM...something like this...still need a pair of upper rodsa to triangulate the rear in place...I cut a 36 ford front spring in half with my plasma cutter and drilled it for new bolts. Feels pretty good as I bounce up and down on it!

Brewsir, that mod's looking good! I am also using a 38 cab, the body will have some customizing that is sure to piss off the restorers!
36 front spring, what made you decide on that?

That was an easy decision...I bought the split drilled chrome wishbones fron rockymntnpits awhile back....and they came with a chrome spring.....bling!

here's the posies setup on the front of my ride...you could do it with short trailer springs with eyes on both ends.....or spend the bux like I did and have it all set up for you....just weld it on!
