So today I was in stephenville (about 2.5 hrs from Dallas) cleaning out my college storage shed. My bro and I decided to check up on some cars we had spotted and never asked about. We first went to check on a yellow custom bodied car. Some sort of model A / lakes type thing with a narrow grille. Well we couldn't find an owner just a yard full of pissed dogs. So we went on to a model A I had been eyeing for my merc 383 motor. The owner is outside doing lawnwork...good start. We walk up introduce ourselves and it turns out that I had met him before at his business. About a year ago he had a '37 chevy p/u that I had talked to him about. Well.. We get to talking and he has the dream load of cars. He shows them all to us. He had stories and history for each car. we spent an hour there. He asked if we go to goodguys much and we told him we usually go to the roundup instead. He asked if it was around march or april and we told him it was.

Here's where it gets wierd.

So this last year he's at work and his wife tells him that there are some hot rods at the gas station. He heads down there to see whats up and finds this "peculiar individual" that was towing a model T behind a truck. Apparently his spindle had sheared off. He offered a model A spindle but the guy who was quite a "character" needed a later model spindle. We asked it the car had a y-block.... sure enough it did.

Any of this sound familiar Kartbreaker ? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've seen the custom bodied car you speak of...It's kind of homely to put it nicely. There used to be a '37 Sedan just up the road from it too.

I wish that guy would have had the right spindles...then maybe I'd still have my extra set of '40 spindles. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yep that's the one. It was built in '49 and raced in the day. The original owner apparently still owns that yellow one. I also thought it was some home-made crap on a volkswagen or somethign the first time I saw it, but we stopped and took a closer look and it's got some interesting stuff. Radius rods come through the body and it looks like it has a belly pan. It's apparently flatty powered. That '37 is gone now.. I checked.
