This isn't too dressy. Not many Cyclone heads around anymore so I settled on the stockers that have been milled .060 and relieved over the valves for clearance. I did pick up one NOS 21 stud factory alluminum one this year and when I find a second one I'll mill them and have them highly polished.

I've been told that the owner had a serious heart attack and is no longer able to do anything strenuous, but I also have been told that he is still selling parts, but is no longer doing assembly work.

burt - That box is a two speed overdrive unit.. It is spliced into the torque tube and allows freeway driving
Here is a better pic

Is the overdrive unit a production item or something your dad built or had made? I can't believe something like that wouldn't sell like hotcakes with the revival of the flathead and the fact people travel greater distances at highway speeds today. Give us the scoop, I want one.

Here is the way my flathead looked when I bought my shoebox earlier this year. It runs really nice and quiet just doesn't have any power. So rather than tear a good running engine apart I found a Merc engine that I'm building up. 4" crank X 3 5/16 bore, Isky Max1 cam with Johnson lightweight lifters. I'm going to run Offy heads and two 94s and an MSD ignition. The guy building the engine did the flathead for the Alexander Brothers Grasshopper truck so he has a good reputation. Can't wait to get some power under the hood of that ragtop shoebox. With the 3 speed OD tranny it aught to go right on down the highway http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Mr 42,
That FK German flattie is pretty cool - I saw one at one of the last runs I went to and couldn't figure out the rear distributor. I thought it was someone who had adapted some other distributor to a French flathead on that governor boss or something...interesting.

Here's a more recent picture of the project. Seven years and counting. It's been good therapy but sometimes it sucks to be a perfectionist.
On the run-in stand at Tardel's today. This was built for Gary Camara's '29 sport coupe that's been transmogrified into one of the coolest roadsters ever. I'll post pics of the car in a couple of weeks.
This is a stout stroker motor that sounds totally bitchin'! BTW, Vern is evalualting a pair of the new Flowmaster street-rod mufflers on the stand. Naturally, they're trying to reach as much of the market as possible and want to know what the flathead crowd think about their latest product. Let me tall ya, the consensus is that Flowmaster has hit a homerun; these mufflers on a flathead have a deep rumbly tone topped with a bit of snap and rap -- and this is without tailpipes! Unlike glasspacks and steelpacks, these puppies sound great right from the start, plus they have no stuffing to burn or blow out. Pardon the excursion. but I feel that this is good muffler for flathead folks to know about.
Here's a closeup of the Flowmasters. In cross-section they're about 5 inches x 3 inches -- skinny!
