View Full Version : Low enough?

While we are waiting on radiator and gas tank for the 4cyl bucket, we started working on another project.
We built the frame last weekend and after Charley went through, we set the body on and made all the mounts. Without the bbc in it, it is setting 7" off the ground. The front spring is soft, so with the motor in it, maybe she will go down another 2 1/2"-3".
Need some opinions as to whether it is low enough or not.
This picture is in the shop after setting the body.

This one was taken by his cab-over that is also a home built. This one was built about two years ago.

How often, how far and where do you want to drive it?

Simple. If you don't have to watch your approach to driveways or parking lots. Or if it never scrapes going down the road it's not low enough. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Go lower, go lower, it's great the amount of sparks and stuff that fill the night sky when you get a flat and your car is spinning down the road on the chassis rail or sheetmetal, out of control, but looking cooool http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If it's not unsafe, dangerously, and/or illegally low, it's just not cool.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

OK Morrisman guess I need to back up a little on that statement. The frame and body metal should be above the scrub line. I've scraped the nose chin on my 41 Ford more than once hitting a dip going down the road but it's above the scrub line. The chins 4" off the ground and the front of the rockers 5". The car has been driven all over from Wy to Vt. it's a driver for the long haul.
