Anyone else see Dick Dale in person in the new Nissan commercial?

While we're at it, anyone know where Eddie Angels guitar is in "Meet the Parents"? Something I read in a Hepcat flyer the other day...

I'm 53 years old and never heard of Dick Dale, but I only know rock and roll. Was he country music or classical music or sumthin?

you've heard him... maybe not heard of him... but you'd know his tunes if you heard one of them

I saw the commercial tonite. Pretty cool. I saw Dick several years ago at a trade show in CA. He was at the Fender booth. I wanted to get a photo but he bolted before I had the chance. Definetly king of the surf guitar.

I saw him last year in a old theatre in St. Pete.

He plays LOUD and FAST and looks like he still loves what he does.

I'm a dickhead now.

53? Miserlou? Pulp Fiction?

The thing that makes him sound so distinctive is the fact that he's playing a right handed guitar upside down, but he doesn't swap the strings around like Hendrix did.

Thats how he hammers out those low notes in Miserlou so fast. The fat strings are on bottom where they're easy to get too.

Many, go to any online music store that lets you listen to snippets and you'll know exactly who it is. Amazon or cduniverse.com are good for this. You'll recognize it.

Dick Dale is the KING of the Surf Guitar.I saw him in 1998 and then in 2000 where I had him sign my Vintage Skateboard.

I saw him abt. two years ago here in Oslo and no matter how much I dig surf; it sucked! He didnt play one single surftune that whole night, -but a shitload of stuff like "Fever" and "House of the rising sun" with vocals and all. Plenty of lame-o jokes from the stage and selling shirts with "Im a dickhead". Not very cool...
The best thing about his gig was his drummer; Dusty Watson. I swear he has three arms.

I've seen him a bunch of times. I appreciate the fact that he sits down after every show & bullshits with the crowd & signs EVERY autograph. Watch your girlfriend or wife - he's a dirty old man.

Another short story:
My wife & I saw him a while back. I was in the habit of bringing my video camera to the shows. He started up, one of his guys asked me to shut it off. Digital cameras were snapping all around me but no video. The band guy got me a photo after the show for my trouble. More importantly, after waiting in line until almost the end, I said "I know it's a long shot, but would you sign my car?" My wife stepped in "It's a '56 Ford." He said "I don't know" I tag teamed & conveniently whipped out my handy photo & & he said OK. I ran out, down the street. Scraped my skirt pulling away from the curb & met him & his crew outside. I had a silver paint pen, which would have worked nicely on my black dash, except it crapped out. I said just sign it in black marker. His crew guy snapped off photos the whole time. I still have both autographs on my car, even though he hit on my wife. He does not have the best handwriting. But I can't think of anybody who Jimi Hendrix looked up to that would give me that much of his time, let alone sign my car!

He played about a month ago walking distance from my house in Redondo Be-otch. Bad ass! Tiny place had about 200 max and he tore shit up. Still playing to the ladies in the front row. Always great to see the legends rip...especially when I can stumble home after.

Dick Dale is a stand-up guy. If you guy`s remember, I made a fireworks "run" for him a couple years ago. I took fireworks to KC to a private airport to meet a pilot buddy of his.
I talked to Dick on the phone several times, he gave me his phone numbers including his 2 cell phone numbers.
Dick told me that he would take care of me for doing the run. He was in town not long ago and he told me "gather up your buddies and come on down, you have free tickets and back stage passes" I was very surprised that he remembered me!The bad part is, I was busy that weekend!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
