Axle thread / Banjo rearend

What size and pitch is the thread suppose to be on the axle on a banjo rear ?
Mine seem to have alot of resistance when I take them on and off, almost like they were cross threaded or the pitch is wrong. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

probably the ends are a bit compressed after over zealous hub pulling.
