I know a guy who wants to sell me his.... here's the scoop.
Nice clean no rust Arizona car totally complete minus motor and trans. All mouldings and trim is complete as is the interior. Bumpers and guards. Body is clean with no dents.

Overall a pretty nice, complete roller missing nothing but a motor and tranny. I didnt know I wanted it untill I saw it. Anyone know a good ball park price so I dont pay too much?

thanks

The old baby boomer guys have driven those cars up into the stratosphere. Look on the bay.

I just went and looked at it so I didnt know to bring my camera. I looked on ebay and there are no "rollers" just finished cars. I checked Collector Car Trader, same thing.

I asked the guy to shoot a price at me and he told me to look at it first. I did, and it is a nice clean rust free old nomad.... I just dont know what it's worth. If I call him up I wouldnt have much to say other than it looks like a complete old car.

He knows what it's worth, I'm not gonna steal it but I may get an ok deal on it. Problem is, I dont know what an ok deal is.

well how well do you know this guy? do you think he wants you to have it? or just fishing for a price from you to see? it is all talk untill you got the title, make him tell you his price!! i am glad you have to do this deal. i been there too many times,i like to scare them into telling me ,i simply tell them i am really afraid to tell you the amount i can offer, and then get him to give his price ,i saw a 56 in albert lea, this sumer for 3,400 no motor need interior and some trim,

nice condition, some one's project but it was still mostly together

3400? You are a major dumbass! I have seen TWO 56 Nomads in the last year go for 8-14K in worse shape than that one!

The Nomad only 8,386 '55 Nomads

'56 and '57 models, but sales of just 7,886 for the 1956 model year and 6,103 for 1957

that's EXACTLY what it looks like with the bumpers off and no motor. The interior is all there but taken off the car and in boxes inside.

I have had a 55 and a 56 nomad and as with everthing it depends on what is there and what has to be fixed. There was one off of ebay a year or two ago that went to your area and the guy was trying to get his money back as to many of the small expesive parts were gone. And he said the doors did not line up at all. There are a few things that improve the value and that is factory AC power seat and other assessories. There was one at the last Turlock swap I was ar and they were asking 12,000 and was not as nice as the one in the photo above (It is so hard to tell in a photo how good it realy is). But if it has all the Nomad parts glass is good sliding window have all the parts and has the Nomad only side Dog legs (stailess trim on side behind the door). Only a small amount of rust (they all have some in the rockers and floors, look in the spare tire well.) I would guess at 8000 to 12000 this year only the other years are more. If you buy it and you find it needs a rear quarter panel let me know. Useless

I will have to agree with Useless... I believe between 8k and 15k is about the value of the vehicle depending upon location and the amount of work needed. Being a trad rod and custom board I would assume you are not going the original route which would leave you more apt to spend less money in the long run for correct parts, etc...56 is the least desirable of the group but in my opinion the best looking...they had the best trim for two colors. 55's are a bitch when looking for the eyebrows and 57's are usually out of sight like the 55's. Good luck in your dealings.

An old friend in Anchorage had a real decent 57 about 4 years ago for 17,000, all stock axcept for the intake and carb. I knew it was a steal but I had no coin at the time. There are still deals out there and one missing trim would still make a hotrod.
Make the guy put his price on it and go from there. It pisses me off when a seller wants the buyer to put the first price on something. It's his and he's selling it, he knows what he has to get.

Only a 55 nomad, but there's one down the street from me going for $11k. Real rough, but complete. No major dents, but needs floors, and has a lot of surface rust. Has siezed motor in it. I'm with everyone else on the price range.
I have a 57 in the shop now, and the guy paid $18 for it. Original Cali a/c car. Pretty clean, but it's gonna take big $$ to fix everything. SO $10-$12k is not unreasonable.

As much as I would like to have a Nomad, my daily driver was ALOT cheaper, around $4500 but was an even trade for my 95 Jeep Wrangler. 8k-12k for a rusty roller http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think I better go for a ride this afternoon and see if that Nomad is still in a guys backyard. Could help pay some college bills the kids have. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Funny thing you asked this question, I seen a very rough 56 Nomad today on a trailer.I was talking to the fella and he paid $12,000 CND for it.It needed everything(floors braces quaters,etc.).

well, I feel like the price I guessed in my head wasnt that far off the mark. He's out of town untill Tues. The car would take about three weeks to get back on the road. Way cheaper than an SUV. I guess I never gave them much thought till he said he needed money. Now that its in my head, they're hard not to like.

thanks folks, we'll see how this pans out.

Just some advice, I've had a couple of friends that have purchased cars that were apart. Both of them were supposed to get everything including trim . Well when they started to assemble the high $ pieces were gone or junk and they spent a bunch of $ to complete the cars. I would take a roll of duct tape and stick every piece of trim and small part on the car to make sure it was all there. at least if it isn't he will know and the price should be adjusted. Best of luck.
