Its alittle late for Tech Week, but what the hey....the lower rear quarter panels on my 53 Chevy are badly rusted, I have new outer patches to weld on but, the inner part needed to be fabbed up because it was pretty much non-existant...be patient, more post to follow.

This is where the simple part comes in....the shape of the inner panel is a simple box that connects to the outer panel....this patch can easily be found on the bottom of any 73-87 Chevy pickup door amoung others.

After some careful measuring, cutting and hammering, I came up with this....I had to cut some slots to clear the bead in the original metal and hammer it out alittle to get the right angle. There will also be two other patches on the ends to seal the deal up.

Here is the finished inner panel...its not pretty, but wont be visible after the outer is in place....my shitty little welder will hardly lay a bead, so I have to make alot of little tacks...I will seal all of the edges with some body sealer and finish with a good undercoating.

I had to do the same to my 54. same side too.
I wish I had thought of the door trick, I fab'ed mine from flat stock.

looks good.

The door is really tore up on the other side...its off a friends truck....he decided to ramp the truck one day, and when it landed, it shoved the front clip about six inches back into the doors...and he just gave it to me anyways.

Cool..
I had to do the inner and outer on the pass side of my '53.
I made mine from 19 flat stock too..

I have 9 damn pieces in the inner 'cause i wanted it to have all the right reveals and shape as the original stuff..
(I have no clue why..especially now that i see that.)

Then i used an outer panel from National Chevy.

That makes the job a lot easier for sure!
