I finally did it, I bought a motor for my 23 T. I kept looking for the perfect motor, nailhead, olds whatever I could find that was cool and more importantly cheap. Then I found a model A motor from an old farmer type living right in town for 200 bucks. The motor is incomplete, its missing the distributor and carburetor and Ive ruined the passenger seat in my toyota getting it home, kinda tweaked my back unloading it myself in the garage but still im just so siked at having it.
I wasnt real sure which direction I was going with for my model T but I guess im going real old school style now.
Does anyone know where I can find some sites with hot rod model A parts and transmission adapters, especially those in Washington state? Thanks

there was a post on here a short while back that had TONS of stuff in it, look back maybe a week for anything related. they talked about banger motors and hop up stuff for em, seem to remember the overhead valve conversion sets run like 3000 to 3500 if that helps at all. i'll see if i can locate it too.

There was an overhead set up on ebay last month. It brought a pile of money. I have a friend with stock model As and he says they are expensive to have built, I'm not sure why. If you want any juice out of it at all you will need a model B crank and plan on putting a full pressure oil system and inserts. Stock Model As were meant to have a top rpm at about 2600 or something like that. Just upping the compression to 6.5:1 will put the babbit beyond it's limits. I just gave away a model A engine because when we took off the head it had the biggest pistons commonly available and they were sloppy, also had the all to common cracks from the bolt holes to the water jackets.
All the negative stuff aside I still think it is a cool project, just don't expect it to be a cheap one.

I pulled off the head nuts, and slid the head off the studs and theres quite a bit of carbon encrusted to the top of the pistons. Its obviously needed to be rebuilt before since the pistons are aluminum and say .040 on the tops. I dont see any cracks anywhere, theres no water in the oil, outside of it being really hard to turn over it looks good to me.
