Last night was just another great Friday Night in Motown for a few hardcore HAMBers! Chilly Novembersesque temps and a brief rain shower didn't dampen the spirits of those who remained Faithfull to the Altar of Cruisianity!

As usual, the evening's activities began at the Sears parking lot in Lincoln Park. Cloudy skies that eventually dumped a little water for maybe ten minutes kept the turnout minimal, but standing around in a tight group not minding the rain at all were DirtyT, Beatnik, Hotrodladycruzr, MeteorMan, Dvlscoupe, and a few other die hards along with myself. (Never did have the sense to come in outta the rain!).

What's more, Beatnik and HRLC were sportin' the new Gusmobile...the crowd-drawing 26 roadster that he couldn't park for a second without having it soon surrounded by onlookers asking questions!

Cold? Rain? Who cares?! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It was cool to discover that an old aquaintence, Tom (MeteorMan) not only now rolls one of the baddest Mercs in town (I've admired it all Summer, never knowing it was his!)...but he's also a registered HAMBer. His bad blue 56 was recently photographed for an upcoming calendar, and he showed us pics from the studio shoot. The car is incredible, and features some beautiful work by Safariknut on the air cleaner. Tom also has a sick dog Maverick that he built years ago...the guy bleeds Ford Blue!

After Sears, we rolled to the 50's McDonalds for dinner and a bit of fun and games. Watched goofballs buzz bround the lot against the flow of traffic on one of them mini motorcycles...betting on how long it'd be before we saw a hot car come around the corner with new hood ornament! Using the desklid of a 440 powered Charger as our picnic table (damn them old Mopars are roomy...could use one for a conference table!), we discussed some final details for the trip to Mokan next week.

Next, it was off to Woodward for some spirited cruising while traffic can still MOVE out there! Denise donned a couple of hoodys, and Gus 'thugged up' in his knit hat and sweater...looking half bank robber, half longshoreman! Dressed for the fine Michigan Summer weather (maybe 50 degrees!), we were off!

Out on Woodward, we hit a few strategic stops and hung with some other car dudes. A cute lady with a heavy accent was blown away by DirtyT's Chevelle...couldn't say enough about it!!!

"Whot eest wrong wit your CAR? There eest so much MEESING from it?!"

She's a real sweetheart...and her boyfriend, Dominic has one nasty-cool supercharged Ford V8 powered Austin Healy...I guess Bryan's Chevelle DOES look a little rough by comparisson!

Out on the road, a little stoplight foolery kept us amused all night...Gus shut down some dork in an 80s Vette, and captured the affections of a pretty blonde at another stoplight...I'm sure she woulda jumped out of the shotgun seat in that SUV and hopped in with Gus if he'd had room for her...she really lit up when he nailed it on the green, too!

(She didn't seem too impressed by the two studs in the flat black Chevelle, though...but Beatnik IS a tough act to follow!)

We even stopped for ice cream...yes, ICE CREAM under the cool night sky! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Finally rolled back home around midnight...like I said...just another Friday Night in the Motor City for the True Believers...weather be damned!

I wouldn't be so pissed if it had actually even RAINED at my house. As amazed as I am to hear, sounds like a good time is being had, even though I'm not there. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They closed the airport 10 minutes before my flight WOULD have left. Tampa Bay was damn lucky, Charley is STILL a hurricane and it went through Orlando and Jacksonville. They have not even been out to Sanibel and Captiva, they are probably both sand bars. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Next year I'll drive there, come hell or high water (as it looks in Charlotte Harbor, both.).

I never name cars, but so far it's been named the Stroker McGurk Roadster at a local cruise night, and then in Louisville, Sawzall named it the the Stoker McGus Roadster, and now it's the Gusmobile.

Yea it was a great night, even if it was a bit cold. I'm ready for the drags. You forgot about having to be hoodlums with the Yuppie and his family in the SUV who tired to block us in at the Ice Cream Place. All we needed were the cops and it was American Graffiti.

Hack you should be writer.

Mike sorry you couldn't make it, but glad to hear you guys didn't get hit.
