I am not saying this to be nice, and because Rome is a good friend of mine, but his art work is the absolute best I have seen on any jacket. The web pictures do not give it any sort of justice. This man is talented to say the very least. And he is not just an artist. WWII avation is a hobby and a passion for this guy. Just my two cents

that is absolutely amazing...what kind of paints are you using??
also how are you doing the layout? are you using a stencil or something to mark the leather?
i've done very minimal painting on leather goods.( mainly just band logos).
painting on leather is NOT easy.
your work looks awesome though, keep it up and post some on the friday art shows....

Paints and stuff, unlike WW2 where thay used whatever they found is like this.

Createx Acrlyics for airbrush art work for me.just make sure the surface is clean and ther ius no greasy residue from whatever. It is an acrylic based paint that is specially designed for textiles. It will bond to the leather.

Design image and create a outline template from it .

Use white as your base and treat it like a blank canvas. paint hovever and whatever you like.... naked midgets or bobbleed ,it works for me sometimes.

Great stuff, sort of a Gil Elvgren look to the art. A friend of mine's dad was a tailgunner in WW2,on a bomber named "Pappy". He says that they took back your flight jacket if you didn't reinlist. He didn't, so they(the air force) took the jacket back when his time was up. I'm thinking that would be a great Christmas present for the old guy.

Really?!!!!
That is very cool . The Thunderbums jacket on the image hosting site was for the son of a p-47 pilot that is still alive.

If you wanted an extremly good reproduction there are a number of makers who do a great job of reproducing the WW2 a-2. (leather flight jacket) as it is known. The modern a-2's look like mall leathers---baggy

My personal favorite is Lost Worlds. Every jacket is like a Ringer.
Thier stuff is how the jackets were made if the jacket you were issued was the best one ever produced back then.
Not as sloppy in construction or materials were concerned.... There was a war going on you know.

Other Very Good mfrs. are Aero Leather ,Real McCoys,Eastman and the Gibson and Barnes Co.
Look to spend between $350.00 to $750.00 or try ebay
websites-----
www.lostworldsinc.com (http://www.lostworldsinc.com)
www.aeroleatherclothing.com (http://www.aeroleatherclothing.com) or aeroleatherusa on ebay
www.realmccoys.co.nz (http://www.realmccoys.co.nz)
www.flightsuitsltd.com (http://www.flightsuitsltd.com) ---Gibson and Barnes
or www.eastmanleather.com (http://www.eastmanleather.com) or history preservation associates

Check out the a-2 website run buy some of the eastman clan
www.acmedepot.com (http://www.acmedepot.com) .Good source of general info.

They actually took a lot of flyers jackets back then, they were a military issued uniform.
The tags on most of them said " PROPERTY AIR FORCE US ARMY"
Guys usally took off those tags when they heard of this happening and said they were private purchase.

Or they magically got lost in the bottom of a duffel bag.
Anyway, hope this helps
