hi everyone. I posted a reintro in the wrong forum, so here goes again. I have been active in street rodding in the western Wisconsin area for nearly 40 years. I own a large automatic transmission rebuilding facility there. If I can help with either advice or parts for your antique automatic please feel free to contact me. I am currently building a "traditional" 28-29 ford coupe streetrod. Zd frame, banjo rear, 52 flatty w/ 3 97s, channeled etc. Like all the great info I've been able to gather here. Again, If I can help . Dave Lamb Lamb4_54703@yahoo.com

Welcome, Dave. Help with early automatics is always a good thang. Got a photo of your hot rod? Notice I didn't call it a street rod? It's an unwritten custom to post a photo or 2 of your machine with an intro if you can.
Hey, I already have a question about early automatics. Is the Hydromatic used behind the puny 6 banger in a 53 Nash Ambassador strong enough for street use behind a V/8 in a street car? Possibly something with 200-250 HP? Does it have the customary 32 bolt fluid coupling found in G.M. applications? I have one and am thinking of possibly using it behind a Small block chevy if I can con a co-worker outa his factory chevy pickup adapter....

Rocky, what you want to do is possible if you know what to look for when you do it & if you have a COMPLETE V8 setup out of an old chev pu.The early hydro has plenty of beef for what you want it to do. I think I still have a couple of these setups around if your buddy dont come through. If you decide to do this, or want to talk directly to me about it my # is: (715) 835-1628 Mon-Fri Dave

Welcome to the HAMB.
I have a semi-modern AT question.
My brother-in-laws 54 Chevy is sitting in my driveway. It has a SBC/turbo 350 in it. The problem is that it has a hard time finding reverse when it is cold. When warm it hesitates just a little in reverse, but when cold it takes minutes to hook up.
It has plenty of fluid and shifts fine in the forward gears. Could this be something simple? Or is it a teardown job.
Any suggestions would be apprectiated.
Thanks,
Neal...inCA

Welcome aboard! Wish you were closer as we have a dual coupling hydro in a 64 Caddy and a Buick dynaflow that could use some tough love! Lucky for me their not mine but belong to a friend (sucker!). If possible post some pics of your ride..

I'd like to be able to post pics of my coupe & a few other cars I have. Sending the wife out to get a decent camera so I can take some. As long as it dont cut into the beer budget too bad. NEALinCA, it sounds like the seals on the low-rev piston have hardened up on you, esp if you say high gear is good. The easiest thing to do at this point is pour about a half a can of brake fluid in it & drive it a week or so. Brake fluid will soften the seals back up & if you havent damaged the clutches yet you're home free. Drain fluid out after a week or so tho, as it will soften seals into mush. Hope this helps. Call if you need more help. Shop# (715) 835-1628 Mon-Fri Dave

Thanks for the reply, Dave. Yeah, the guy has a complete chevy/hydro setup and his tranny shot craps. He replaced his with a 400 turbo and told me today he'd make me a screamin deal on the complete hydro junk but if he flakes on me, I'll be callin you.
I knew you'd be real popular here in this site.
