Was looking on my shelves the other night at my models and pickup this one up to check it out. Then earlier this week was reading Von Tingler's post on the art display and saw his Fairlane monster art piece and thought he may like to see this model. A lot of work in this one, so I won't describe how I did it! Geoff aka Whodaky

Here in Victoria we have a big open air show, called John's Rod and Custom Picnic. At this show there is a model display. Every year for this I do a couple of pieces to be given away to the entrants. One I award as my choice and the other goes to the youngest modeler. The last few years I have been painting up these el cheapo tool boxes. From what I have been told they are much sort after by those who enter. Geoff aka Whodaky

Whodaky, than Ranchero is BEAUTIFUL. I tried figuring out what you did to it, but I'm stumped. Looks like the '61 Ranchero ass end and roof grafted onto a galaxie...am I close??

I would guess some 60 Impala or Elcomino influence.

Cute lil modified K&R. Thanks I thought you guys would like the phantom Ranchero. The b pillars, tops of quarters, tailgate were all cut off the '61 Ranchero, in one piece. Then it was all grafted onto the Revell Thunderbolt. A lot of preliminary measuring took place and from this I realised I had to chop the top to get the Fairlane roof to work with the ranchero rear window. The body has also been sectioned around 1/8". This was taken from the bottom of the sills and the front fenders were cut along the trim line and moved up. It was this section job that really gave the model a sleek look. Before that it looked quite 'fat' in the body. Geoff aka Whodaky

My addition for this week. textured bathroom tile washed with thinned black and wiped off, let dry, then striped with red.
Great show so far, got me wanting to dust off my modeling skills.

Thought I'd do something different this week:feature some pics of works of other artists.I either have these or have taken photos of them.
First one is a painting of my dog done by Dave Knoderer aka,"Letterfly" who spent the day at my shop Monday.A great guy and a greater artist!I stripe-flamed his paint stool in exchange but unfortunately didn't get any pics of it.
I'll label the others as I go along as they are scattered through my document file and it takes some time to find them(I have a couple thoousand images in there).

Wow! great Art Show already. I love models and modeling and what's been shown are fantastic. Every thing is looking good.

I've been slowly working on some of my POS panels the last couple of weeks and not being able to complete any. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anyway, I took a couple of in progress shots just so I could participate. The pics turned out like shit but, I'll take better shots when their done.

The first are two panels that have a Imitation Gold first color and one got a Emerald Green second color and the other got Purple w/ a little White mixed in. When their dry I will add a third color to each of them. They are striped on some PVC black scrap plastic. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

This POS panel is larger than the others and has 1Shot's Medium Gray as the first color and Purple lightend w/ White as a second. It too will have a third color when done. I'll post much better pics after completion and clean up. Sorry for the blur. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The last pic is of a panel I posted on the March 30th Friday show. It never went to anyone and I think it looked naked. I added some Imitation Gold lines to it to fill it out. I think Donzie will get this for his door prize give away at his show in September.

Thanks for stopping in, more to come. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

On a lighter note, I pinstriped a few models for a photo shoot (dont worry, we used a non toxic body paint, the stuff was kinda wierd to work with but the girls didnt like the idea of showering in mineral spirits).
And I have a new found respect for tattoo artists.

Took this picture this morning when I went out to the shop.I had parked my wife's Tracker next to a couple of those solar powered yard lights and during the night a spider had fashioned a web running from the rear wheel well to one of the lamps.A really nicely shaped orb and pretty large.Took several shots and this one came out the best.Don't know if it qualifies as art but to me ALL spider webs are works of art.

started this at the UK Nats show last weekend....most of you know the car and possibly the background....need to darken the sign and work out how background to put in....you can get carried away on subjects like this.....bad scan of the piece and a bad job stitching the image together as well (too big for the scanner)
theres some good stuff on here this week ...love those models

Jester and Safari, I reckon that stuff is art. It is messing with images or seeing interesting things that to me are inspirational. I am always looking at reflections and shadows and all sorts of stuff. When I see them I think they may be interesting and I believe they become implanted in my subconscious and may be one day come into play in smothing I may be doing.
I think sometimes when I post model shots, hey are they art. But I believe they are because they are depicting something I have produced. They are a pysical 3 dimensional production of my ideas. From that others maybe inspired. I love seeing the models others show on here and I would hope others get something out of what I present here.
I see the Friday art and all those involved as one big think tank. We are all inspired by what we see on here. The really great part it is in a great spirit. A very non competitive environment and no big egos to deal with. It doesn't matter what your skill level or what you present here, you are accepted as an equal and that is very important for the nurturing of what we are all doing.
Whoops didn't mean this to turn into a rant. But hey I just get carried away and like to express myself through words sometimes! Geoff aka Whodaky

Wow! Just some awesome stuff in this week's gallery! Junkyard Dog... I LOVE the skull art!

Not really car related, but I spent all week learning some interesting aspects of metalshaping. It is fun to take a flat piece of metal and convince it to take on other shapes and dimensions...

The projects I worked on this week, all in one group

The "saddle" which started life out as a "+" with rounded inside corners

The beginning of a torus shape... I still need to enclose it. My first attempt at a lap joint too.

The leaf shape is going to be enclosed, but it makes a cool leaf shape too.

I had a blast this week. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif But now I'm having withdrawals... time to start hunting for good hammers & such.

STEEL PHOENIX- That's awesome! Are you taking a class somewhere? The whole time I've been working on this, I've been daydreaming about going to Hollywood or New Zealand (L.O.T.R.) to make movie props. Wouldn't that be a cool job?
I saw a mounted boars head with a bunch of rummage-sale trinkets stuck all over it, and was inspired to do these skulls.
I have a full size fiberglass horse head that I want to do in full armor. In the meantime, I'll just put out an "army" of skulls.
Thanks for the kudos... keep up the cool bashings yourself.

Did I mention...?
I love my anvil.

Joe, it was a week long class. I was in the classroom from 9 to 5 all week. Quite a bit of work and knowledge condensed in to a short amount of time. And as much as I love my anvil... surprislingly little anvil work was done in these. I used a lot of different forming stakes, mallets, hammers and a lot of annealing as the brass work hardened. I am interested in applying the same principles to steel to see how it differs. I love forgework, now I'm hooked on this type of metalshaping too. I'd like to apply what I've learned to learning about body work too.

I imagine making movie props would be a blast... just be prepared for a lot of sleepless nights. But it would be fun to make the jewelry, body armor and head pieces like they had in LOTR. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Looks like this Friday Night art show has really got you out from under your rock Whodaky! Good to see.

Here's my attempt at "art".

As close as I get to a can of One Shot (at the moment).

and a shot of a neat Trumpy bobber.

No Photoshop magic either. Shot on 3200 ASA B&W film. Not perfect shots, but I thought they turned out OK.

Location: Greazefest. Brisbane, Australia.
