just from what i've read at my short time here i kinda get teh feeling that not many people are versed in the ways of the lead. well to make it a little easier to get goin i am going to throw out some "recipies" for tinning butters, soldering salts and some "no rust" so here it goes. granted it would probably be easier to find someone that sells the stuff, but its always nice knowing you can make it if you have to. I've usually get the chemicals of the internet.
tinning butter #1
mix ingredients into pot over low heat
all amounts by weight
500 parts oilve oil
400 parts mutton tallow
slowly stir in
250 parts powdered rosin
boil up once and allow to begin to cool
mix in 125 parts water that is saturated with sal ammoniac(add while stirring untill the sal ammoniac wont dissolve any more)
allow to cool before use
tinning butter #2
50 parts oilve oil
50 parts powdered sal ammoniac(usually comes in a block, powder yourself)
mix till warm, cool to use
no rust
mix by weight
equal parts
zinc chloride
sal amoniac saturated in water
distilled water
filter before use
soldering salts
equal parts
neutral zinc chloride(free of iron)
powdered sal ammoniac
mix with minimat water untill pasty
mix 50:50 with water to use
