I have an extra wire on my SBC distributor, it's attached to the breaker plate. The other end is just hanging there with a terminal on it. It obviously goes somewhere, it's only about an inch long so it's gotta go somewhere on the distributor.
I also have another condensor type thing attached to the coil bracket, what is it?

A mentally challenged dork needs to know.

Hard to see it through the computer, but I'd bet the wire you're talking about goes to your condensor inside the distributor.

On a GM points style distributor, the best thing is to substitiute the seperate points and condensor assemblies with what they call a "uni-set". It's one assembly that includes your breaker points and your condensor in one part. Any decent parts store will have them, and they are a direct swap...an easy bolt-in (screw-in, actually!).

The condensor on your coil bracket is most likely there to fight radio interference.

(There will, of course, also need to be a wire run from your points to the distributor (-) side of your ignition coil.)

The short wire with terminal is case to plate ground and theone on coil is a radio noise eliminator,a glorified condenser of sorts.By the way your post reads pretty "punny" on the main index. "I have an extra wire on my Nads".Somebody shock 'im.Laughing my ass off in southern Ok. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Crackpot, I did go with a uniset, but the old separate set was in the distributor.
The wire wasn't attached to the condensor. The wire has a closed terminal, not a fork type that slips onto the points.
I'm thinking it might be a separate ground. My dizzy was missing the vaccuum advance unit, theres a nub on it that matches up with the hole on the wire terminal. That's where I think it goes, it's the right length too.
Because I listen crazy UFO stations on AM late at night I need noise suppression. So the condensor on the coil hooks to the negative terminal on the coil?

Sounds like a ground wire...try it as one...if it won't start, unhook it! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Correctomundo on the radio condensor wiring!

You listening to Castro's Radio Playhouse or something???

The ground strap does go from plate V.A..IE: case. The noise eliminator however hooks to the plus side of coil not the neg. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
